LOVELY!! /sarcasm
JUST what we need up here in the NorthEast to start out our forecasted "Tumultuous winter"!! Unfortunately, I think S Florida is over-due for a tropical battering-and right now; that's where they're predicting. Although my daughter is further inland-near Orlando, as a fellow "trauma junkie", who works a busy ER, the little brat is excited... hmm cool2
 Quoting: LostAndFound60

Yeah I think it's unlikely that Erika would make its way up the coast.. we'll see. They did a good job on that Sandy track, but I think that track prediction started when Sandy was off Florida. Erika needs to get past a few hurdles to just make Florida as an organized storm on Sunday/Monday first.

Was mainly teasing Simple about her storm wishes... hehe

I think I heard that Florida hasn't had a hurricane make land for 10 years, does that sound right?

cheers
 Quoting: Birkeland

Adrenaline junkie. I was like that as a police dispatcher. I loved to be super busy with major events going on. Never liked the pain and suffering of others, don't get me wrong. rather it was pure adrenaline and you were so busy and working so hard, it was great.

Weird I know
 Quoting: WhiteAngel

Believe me WA, I KNOW exactly what you mean. I miss it..heck, I miss my career, PERIOD!! I worked or volunteered in hospitals starting at age 12, and would do almost ANYTHING to go back!! I was going to sign-up for our hospital auxiliary-BUT, I was told that they "don't allow patient contact"-gift shop and cleaning up the cafeteria, occasionally helping to guide visitors-are ALL they do. I talked to Bill, (my primary doc, a friend AND the former COS of the hospital) and he said it's because of "liability" sigh
Same thing when I asked him if I could start a "Teen volunteer" program there. Well, THAT, AND the fact they usually have a patient census of less than 20.....

He says "when hell freezes over" OR if something massive were to happen in this area-he'll let me go back to work in the ER..... I TRIED to convince him that hell had frozen over last winter when we went for over a month with temps under 20deg. Obviously, it didn't work. SO, I'm relegated to driving his nurses & hospitalists crazy when I'm a patient.

Actually, about 6 years ago, after a VERY nasty experience, (I had 2 broken shins and after being in the ER for over 9 HOURS, they refused to give me anything stronger than Tylenol, called me an "addict" and lectured me about how they weren't going to be "fooled" by my "drug-seeking tricks", was told that there was "no such disorder" as my genetic disorder AND accused me of breaking my legs just to get drugs--ALL DESPITE me having a valid prescription for the fentanyl patches I was on AND had brought my box of un-used patches with me-showing that I wasn't abusing them AND they had access to my medical records showing I'd been averaging 1-3 fractures/month because of severe osteoporosis...THEN, they waited until 3am to discharge me, called the police to tell me I couldn't "loiter" in the waiting room until I could get the taxi to pick me up at 6am, and was forced to hobble home on 2 casts, no crutches, in the snow, for over 1/2 mile!!), he brought me into a "Mandatory Inservice" for ALL employees and educate them on my genetic disorder and similar disorders and proper ways to tell if someone is actually seeking narcotics...basically, myself and another good friend, who was the only local psychiatrist at the time, gave these folks a crash course on ethics and disabilities. The supervisor RN who'd treated me like shit that morning, made a spectacle at the Inservice, said I'd lied about my background and anyone who stayed & listened was "a fool". She tore up the handout on my genetic disorder-a paper that I'd written with a genetic Doc from Johns Hopkins and was actually published in 1996-a year and a half into Medical School-and threw it in the trash. She wasn't welcomed back-she lost her job & refused to apologize. I've had some problems since then with people who resent me for that whole thing-so I TRY and AVOID going to this local ER as much as possible. I doubt working there would be a really happy experience. :(

I STILL have HOPE though, that ONE DAY, in SOME capacity, I'll be able to use my skills and knowledge again in some aspect of patient care!!
 Quoting: LostAndFound60

How did everything go today WA?
 Quoting: Simple27

Went okay. Just impressions but when they took them out two teeth were in there, lol. Okay it isn't funny but one has to laugh or one spends too many hours crying about it.

Thanks for asking hon hugs
 Quoting: WhiteAngel

OMG!! I hope it didn't hurt too bad!! I remember the impressions-they had to re-do them twice for some reason. HATED it!! BUT, like you, I gotten to the point with all the abscesses, constant antibiotics (it took several years to get over the "tolerance" I'd built up. At first, I actually had to be on IV antibiotics when I got sick because of my tolerance to oral antibiotics), AND, especially, the PAIN, (basically crying in pain for days at a time because I also had a tolerance to pain meds.).

I KNOW if you're going through anything close to what I did-you're READY for it to be OVER!! When is your surgery?
 Quoting: LostAndFound60

In 3 weeks or less I go in for the fitting. If everything is okay, then a week later for the surgery or so. the oral surgeon is only there on Fridays at that office so it will depend on that.

I am so sick of the dental pain and infections. I have 4 teeth broke off at the gum line, so infections are constant.

Gotta share with something I found for the pain. I was on percocet and 4 Advil every 6 hours and nothing was helping. For some reason I thought about Vick's vapor run and rubbed that on the side of the face that was hurting. Viola!!! Seriously, it worked so well I was only using 3 Advil every 6 hours for inflammation and it was staying very tolerable. Amazing stuff.

Who would have thunk it
 Quoting: WhiteAngel

DANG!! Wish I'd thought of THAT!! I DID use ice packs, a LOT!! I even slept on them!!

I was given a homeopathic-can't remember right-off, but I can find out. I've read all the studies and KNOW many people think it's just sugar pills, BUT, those little pellets sure as heck did SOMETHING for me-at least as long as it was certain teeth/areas (towards the front). They WERE little "magic pills" for me, not just "dulling" the pain, but taking it away all together!! But they didn't work on my back teeth, when they abscessed. If you're interested, let me know, I've got it written in my book on homeopathy.

Swish with Coconut Oil for mouth sores. Heck with certain intense tooth pain, bite down on a piece of Coconut Oil as it melts and the pain will disappear. Coconut Oil has got me through the last two years of pain. Only when the inflammation and swelling started did it not work and that's when I figured out the Vick's.

I lived & worked here for 2 years. In exchange for me being webmaster of their thousands of web pages and dozens of connected sites; I got free Ayurvedic care, a basic education in it, free/reduced supplements and yoga therapy. It was 2 of the best years of my life & if I didn't have Leela right now, I'd be back up there. (If they'd take me, lol!! ;)

In fact, with the stuff that's going on right now-I miss having Vasant Lads 2 main texts on Ayurveda. I lost mine in the fire last year and just haven't been able to afford replacing them. They're the BEST references and texts on Ayurveda and Ayurvedic treatments, bar NONE!! But they're about $40 a piece, so will have to wait!!

EDIT: forgot link!! [link to www.himalayaninstitute.org]

PS. Ayurveda and yoga did more for me in 6 months than conventional physical therapy and allopathic medicine had in 20 YEARS!!

High Hgb CAN be indicative of several blood disorders-but usually it's just something aberrant; either calibration or reading was wrong, or just something with your metabolism/O2 saturation when your blood was drawn. Depending on other tests done at the time & any signs or symptoms; they could ask for a repeat Hgb/Hct-which can be done with just a finger-stick.

I don't really know what to do. My insurance won't cover me seeing her and I don't yet have a new PCP.

When was your last chest x-ray??
 Quoting: WhiteAngel

I agree, you need at MINIMUM a CXR with those chest pains-but the chest pain plus the blood tests results-which could have shown other things they didn't tell you on the phone-you DO need to go back & see what's going on. If you can find a PCP that your insurance covers-you can transfer your test results and medical records; but you DO need to be seen to rule out anything serious!!

It's a pain, I know. Tomorrow morning at 9am I'm going in for 6-7 hours of tests. They're FINALLY checking the circulation in my always purple & swollen legs. I wake UP with them purple & swollen, and Heaven help me when I try and take a walk or do any cleaning on my feet for more than 5-10 minutes; they get so bad I just can't walk on them at ALL. And Lasix, (water pill/diuretic) does absolutely NOTHING-except I go pee every 3 minutes!!
Anyways, I'm having Vascular studies, both arterial and venous, tomorrow, then an echo(cardiogram). They're trying to get another persantine stress test scheduled-but because they want to admit me, put a central line in, and check my lungs & carotids at the same time, Medicare has denied the request twice now. I'm not too upset-the last persantine test they did last year, I swear, I felt like I was dying on the table, had the WORST headache, and couldn't get that metallic, electrical taste out of me for a couple of days!! (Persantine mimics doing the exercise, raising your heart rate and causing you to breath heavily-it's a very strong vasodilator)

What some people here probably don't know: I like crystals. I have a crystal skull (well, a small fake quartz one), a single terminated quartz crystal, and an iolite/tibetan quartz crystal pendant.

So today I have added to my collection a moldavite + kyanite crystal pendant.

Weirdest freaking thing: as soon as I placed the order, within 30 seconds of the order being placed, my internet went down.

And it does not go down.

Cool CS! I have a thing for crystals, too. When I was a kid growing up the woman who lived next to us was really into crystals and had such an amazing collection! I thought they were so beautiful! She gave me one of them, a good sized one. It was Amethyst...which is my birthstone. : )

Way cool!!! They are most definitely beautiful.

My birthstone is Tourmaline. Which is weird, because I am in no way drawn to the color or the stone.

Pile gets bigger day after day!

I can't even explain how I feel right now. Between her, work, health, etc.

I can't elaborate over the internet, but I am just not in good space lately.
