rant rant rant rant rant rant

What a flippin day!

I have been carting Pandi from the HS to her culinary class since her accident on Oct 21st where her car was totaled and she isn't totally healed up so can't use the bus that is supplies as she can't climb the steps. She was limping worse than usual and I asked why as we left the parking lot. Seems she is a major klutz as she was playing ping pong in gym (not allowed to do more) and slipped and fell on her butt hurting her tail bone and jarring the accident injuries.

I was laughing pretty hard when the car just stopped running. Glanced at the gas gauge, still a quarter of a tank. Let it coast to a slightly safer area of the road and tried to start the engine. Cranked but didn't turn over. &*^% *&^&*^ *^&*%

Called DH who said what I thought (*&*( (*&*(&( &*^^%&*&**(^
Friend brought him to my location with a little gas in hopes that gauge was broke and it had just ran out of gas. Nope, as soon as he tried to start it he knew it was more than just running out of gas, which would have been weird.

3 hours later, the car is in the driveway after being towed home, dead! A friend of his will be coming over after he gets off to see what they can find is wrong with the stupid piece of (**&

We now are without a vehicle at all. Crossing our fingers it is something simple like a timing belt breaking. I fear it is dead and gone, after all it is a 1997 and has over 250,000 miles.

I have a dentist appointment today, and it's another four hour drive each way, and waking up this morning I am achy and think I might have a temp..not a good condition to show up at a dentist for, so I am thinking this is one I will have to reschedule. It was just a general appt to probably get my dentures realigned, and it's the "speech" one on Tuesday they will be checking my swallowing and throat and stuff that I am hoping will be better for to make that one, and I while I'm still a bit tired from the Portland trip, this is more my body telling me it still needs to rest before it really gives in to this cold it's fighting, and I'm going to do just that. and yet I'm trying not to 'get down' on myself for canceling it, something I am really good at is beating myself up inside..I do that a lot.

It's the timing belt. Gomez gave me a sure fire way to make sure. Now to figure out how to pay for it, or even say screw it and get a new to us car. No way we can afford a new car with payments of $250+ None.

Cheap fix, plenty of YouTube's on it. That should be a non-interference engine so there shouldn't be valve damage.
 Quoting: Gomez

That is what the friend was saying. DH figures it shouldn't be too hard to do themselves. I just hope they are right. Might have to rent a car for a couple of days while they work on it this weekend. Being totally carless is very nerve wracking.

We are not well to do by any means!
 Quoting: WhiteAngel

Be prepared for the worse if Gomez is wrong The timing belt went on my daughters car a VW Golf 02. The valves were invasive which really screwed the head. Not worth the bother alas if this is the case WA as that repair could cost more than the car is worth. Daughter got it repaired and now has a new engine which is more that the market value of the car.

Aye. If I were a crook I would have told her to break the drivers window after I had hot-wired it, towed it to a lonely country road and report it stolen.

Wish you luck in any regard......oldozer indeed....hf

Thank you Irish! (you need an account so we know what to call you hon) hugs

That is what we are worried about. If the repairs are too high, it will be better to just get a new to us car. It is the monthly payments we are worried about. Can't afford much more than already have.

We haven't had a car payment in over 10 years.

Tried to sign up a few times with little success. Contented lurker really though with the odd bit of inane scribbling as drink is a problem. Love that falling off the wagon when funds/friends/repairs/ allow.

With any luck Gomez is right but I think you would be better off looking for some older sort of car if you have to go on the drip for it. You are on a win though if you have not been paying for a car for such a long time.

This oldozer and family always drove 60's cars we re-built ourselves, (long suffering wife). People always would remark on her mad old fool for such cars. We could live with that though as there was always junk cars about my old workshop then.

Wish you well and try not to worry too much about it, Agus Slainte.........

Aye. What I would have given to own a Mustang 65 and a half.........hf

Yes, if it is meant to be, one is best to just go with the flow and not fight it. Makes like a whole lot easier.

Not meant in offence but it did make me laugh as I read. It seems so much easier in hindsight, but then old truck drivers are always good for a yarn or so.
