Potential Eruption Detected
An eruption peaking at C8.9 was just observed at 21:03 UTC (Feb 11) around region 2497. Incoming imagery courtesy of the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) suggests that a coronal mass ejection (CME) will be associated. More updates to follow.

To know where your heart is, look where your mind goes when it wanders.

A rock in bad hands killed Abel. A rock in good hands killed Goliath. It isn't about the rock.

A true warrior fights not because he hates the one in front of him, but because he loves those behind him.

Hello everyone!

Sure are a lot of California and Washington quakes this week.

Isn't that a really good thing though? Lots of smaller quakes may lessen the burden and prevent a 9+? I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Have a fantastic afternoon and evening!!!

Nope. Because quakes are measured logarithmically, each measurement up of a quake is like thousands of times greater.

USGS had a neat one - where they talked about like 6,000 5.0s would be needed to stop a 6.0 or something outrageous like that. I forget exactly...

This is odd, from Dutchsinse today:

"Something very strange currently resides on the USGS past 7 days (all magnitudes) CSV feed.

Currently, the feed shows an odd false recording of a super-massive M9.9 earthquake striking “The Geysers” California near Clear Lake Volcano North of San Francisco."

link: [link to dutchsinse.com]

He also had this to say yesterday:

"It has now been well over a day since the M4.3 struck off NW California, and the M4.8 struck the Gulf of California...
USGS still choosing to NOT report these events in our own back yard."

As far as yesterday goes, I haven't had the chance to check yet to see if those quakes were ever added. But the sum of all this is a bit odd.

Also, I talked to my friend in Taipei. He said that big quake in southern Taiwan did shake Taipei pretty well. Woke most people out of bed and gave them a good scare, but no damage in that area.
