This place is less than 5 minutes from my house and I have never known that they have a telescope there and offer this! I'm signing up!

HIGH ROCK PARK, TOWER AND OBSERVATORY

High Rock is home to the city's large 12 inch Meade telescope with lenses powerful enough to view the rings of Saturn, Jupiter and her moons, galaxies, star clusters, nebulae and many other wonders of the night sky.

This should be helpful for me learning how to use my telescope. rockon

Hi all, some interesting info i came across yest reg Nepal situation which is still tense regards eq's ...

"Though thousands of small aftershocks followed the April 25 earthquake in a year time, he explained, they were not big enough to release the residual energy. Moreover, the apparent locking of the fault and lack of its further movement is more alarming as threat of other big earthquakes looms large.

Sooner or later, the fault section, which passes beneath the Kathmandu Valley and connects to the Himalayan Frontal Thrust that delineates Chure region and Tarai plains in the south, has to move roughly the same amount (2-4 metres) as the section that ruptured in the Gorkha earthquake, according to Eric Fielding, a geophysicist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory."

AND

"NASA’s Eric Fielding pointed out that a very large section of the MHT, which extends from the Gorkha earthquake’s epicentre beneath all of western Nepal and a part of the Indian Himalaya, has not ruptured since 1505.

“This is the section of greatest concern. Because after 500 years, it could have enough stress accumulated to cause a great earthquake of Magnitude 8.5 or larger,” he said. Likewise, no big earthquake, except the largest known continental earthquake of Magnitude 8.7 in Assam in 1950, has occurred in the region from eastern Nepal to Bhutan and north-east India since 1255.

Some scientists fear that earthquakes in both the segments could be as big as M 9.0."

Earthquake swarm in NW Arizona keeps rolling on

There has been a swarm of 21 quakes in an area along the Arizona-Nevada line south-southwest of Littlefield, AZ, which is also close to southwestern Utah and the frequency and span puzzles geologists.
