Has anyone noticed that many EQ's were at the 10Km depth. Those are very shallow quakes. Doing a little research on EMSC EQ site, four of the M>6 EQ's had shallow depths of 10Km and occurred in April 2016. These could be pre-quakes to a much bigger event.

I would expect 1 or 2 more M>6 EQ events today....

Afaik they put 10 km as a default, usually after they checked it the number changes.

Quick question, still a newbie with quakes.

I know the Georgia Tech seismogram and spectrogram has been going freaky and no earthquakes and now it is calm.

But, wouldn't it go a little freaky with a 3.3 Oklahoma quake that just happened?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69540926

That showed up on here
[link to geophysics.eas.gatech.edu]
After 16:20 and also on here
[link to geophysics.eas.gatech.edu]
At about 16;40.

See how small they are?

What we are talking about for the precursor is usually 12-48 hours after the spike is seen. That we saw all that activity this smoke, tells me quaking will be very busy soon with 5.0-6.0's

the 3.3 in OK was a very tiny quake and wouldn't always even show up on the QTEQ's

Thank you! I appreciate it.

I would have put in a thank you pic, but I couldn't find one.

Balloon berry is not very tasty according wiki. what do you say?

I have a little garden now (ca. 400 m²) and want to grow some climbing plants, kiwi, kiwiberries, perhaps a grapevine too. But also beans and such. Not too much work because I have arthrosis in many joints.

Perhaps I'll have some questions to you about gardening ...

I like them... not a strong flavour, but not blant, and they are very beautifull. I think it depends a lot on soil composition... Kiwi berries are great, better than kiwis, and regarding grapes i have 80 plants (table+wine). I have several threads about this... afro

Melting ice and shifting rain patterns are causing the north and south poles to drift.

The north pole is on the run. Although it can drift as much as 10 meters across a century, sometimes returning to near its origin, it has recently taken a sharp turn to the east. Climate change is the likely culprit, yet scientists are debating how much melting ice or changing rain patterns affect the pole’s wanderlust.

The geographical poles—the north and south tips of the axis that the Earth spins around—wobble over time due to small variations in the sun’s and moon’s pulls, and potentially to motion in Earth’s core and mantle. But changes on the planet’s surface can alter the poles, too. They wobble with every season as the distribution of snow and rain change, and over long stretches as well. Roughly 10,000 years ago, for example, Earth woke up from a deep freeze and the massive ice sheets sitting atop what is now Canada melted. As ice mass fled, and the depressed crust rebounded, the distribution of the planet’s mass changed and the north pole started to drift west.

Around 2000 the pole took an eastward turn; it stopped drifting toward Hudson Bay, Canada, and started drifting along the Greenwich meridian in the direction of London.

MOM & POP: Are we pushing Mother Nature too far?

Since statehood, everything in Oklahoma has revolved around oil and gas. The energy business accounts for one in five jobs in the state, roughly 10 percent of its GDP. The tallest buildings are named for oil and gas companies, sports stadiums bear the names of energy firms and their billionaire founders, even the state capital sits atop a giant oil field. Energy makes or breaks Oklahoma, and right now it's breaking the state.

In 2007, there was one earthquake, in 2015, there were 907! The quake of 2007 had a magnitude 3 - the lowest level at which they can usually be felt. Oklahoma now has more 3-plus earthquakes than California, and is now on pace to have magnitude - 4 quakes. No place in the world has had so many quakes at such a rate in such a short time!

Aftershock in Oklahoma Quake Lawsuit: Producers Seek Dismissal

Oklahoma producers on Monday fired back at environmental groups in a legal tussle in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma, asking for dismissal of a lawsuit over alleged oil/natural gas injection well-induced earthquakes in the state.

At issue is a lawsuit filed by the Sierra Club (Sierra Club v. Chesapeake Operating LLC, et al.) against four producers to get court-ordered production waste cutbacks as a means of preventing future earthquakes. Sierra Club attorneys argue the state regulators are "too intertwined" with the oil/gas industry and, thus, the federal court involvement is needed to fully address the problem.

The ongoing legal battle comes at a time when U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) researchers have said that Oklahoma is one of six states at greatest risk for human-induced seismic activity (see Shale Daily, March 28). In both Oklahoma and Texas there have been numerous instances of modest quake activity blamed on drilling waste injection wells, sparking the USGS interest in recent years.

Sierra Club attorneys used the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) as the basis for their lawsuit, but the oil/gas operators' filings countered that wastewater disposal falls under the SDWA jurisdiction as part of the underground injection well permitting process.
