I didn't see the meteor itself, but saw the 3 bright green flashes in the sky. At first I wasn't sure what it was and thought maybe lightning, but checked the radar and we had nothing near us for weather. I jumped on American Meteor Society and didn't see any reports (but that was immediately after I saw the flashes). So cool!!! Volunteers needed for earthquake drill Posted May. 17, 2016 at 5:14 AM Local emergency managers are looking for up to 200 volunteers to take part in a disaster-readiness exercise. It helps if you can act. The Silverstein Eye Centers Arena in Independence will become an evacuee reception center on Aug. 24, a place where people fleeing a disaster such as a major earthquake would sign in for help that might include an assignment to a local shelter. Others, able to travel on their own, might stop long enough to grab a couple maps and keep going. “This is one of the largest shelters you’ll ever see. It’s really a small city,” said Mark Widner of Jackson County’s Emergency Preparedness Department. The county and the city of Independence are working together as part of a statewide event that day. Missouri is hosting the country’s fifth annual “national mass care exercise.” The Missouri State Emergency Management Agency and volunteer groups such as the Medical Reserve Corps are taking part as well. . . GRRRR Their office called me a few weeks ago to verify all of my insurance info and didn't mention any problems. Also, my PCP checked my insurance with them months ago, prior to referring me there. They wouldn't even allow me to pay out of pocket to see him today. Wtf?! And the appointment was scheduled in February. Today was the first available appointment. So friggin annoying.
