Gov't to require earthquake-proof designs for smaller buildings

SEOUL, Sept. 20 (Yonhap) -- All new buildings in South Korea that are higher than one story will be required to be earthquake-resistant from next year, while those with 16 floors or more must have their earthquake-proof designs verified, the government said Tuesday.

The measure was set following a 5.8-magnitude earthquake that hit the nation's southeastern region on Sept. 12, the most powerful tremor to be recorded here, and the nearly 400 aftershocks since. The region was again struck by an aftershock measuring magnitude 4.5 on Monday night.

I think it needs to be over 4.5 so that is why it's not showing, might change the policy though.

Poland is Pillar...I know we have an AC from Switzerland who is a regular and also an AC from Hong Kong who has been around for a while with us. An AC from Mexico usually posts here when they have a quake long before it shows up on EMSC or USGS. He/she must be one of the ones you mentioned above.

I'm sure I'm missing some too, and apologize if I have!

It definitely is really cool to have people from all over the globe checking in. I love the people who post here. AC's very much included.

No apology required as you and your team have more than enough to deal with. I do read this thread daily and I like to pop in infrequently to leave a post of gratitude for you and your core team for the majorly impressive work everyone does in this thread.

Yes, I was Littlepixie but felt the need to counteract the number of posters that had added deplorable to their names, hence AdorableLittlepixie.

May your surgery and recovery be a breeze. Take all the time you need to rest, this thread is the best and will survive better than the rest.

I'm gonna admit I'm watching the second half of that Jon Benet Ramsey special on cbs right now. First half was last night. I have to say it's fascinating! They have this group of experts (in every possible area-forensics, linguistics, child crimes...) who basically have gone over the entire case with a fine tooth comb. It's so interesting. I gather they don't point the finger at the end-they want to just present the facts snd let them speak for themselves, but the way things are going they might not have to anyway.

Wait, what? The way my mom talked about it (the special) it doesn't sound like the brother (then 9 years old?) could've done all that was done to her.

I'm not sure how far into the special you are so I don't want to mention specifics that my mom mentioned.

Then again, I haven't seen it. And the DNA would be a tricky situation since they're siblings. Although it could be different. Tricky.

I need to watch the special!

That must be the same special that was on last week! My mom was all into it and told me all about it. It sounds really good!

I didn't know it was on again this week. I would've liked to have watched it. Shucks!

I know there was something that aired before this, but I think it was different. I could be wrong though.

Don't have tv so can't watch but I always had suspicions her brother did it out of jealousy...idk.

Yep that's pretty much it. And then an elaborate cover up by the parents. What they were able to do in some of their investigating was quite cool. And I saw footage and learned details I never knew of before. Like the extensive cover up on behalf of the D.A. as well. There was so much fuckedupness about it all. I'm glad I watched it. It's nice to have some closure!

This one was 4 hours total. It was a group of like 8 experts and they go over every detail of the entire case. They do simulations, reenactments. Even built a replica of the house on the inside. It was cool. I recommend it if you're into crime solving like me.

Ohhhh very cool! And yes, I am into this stuff. My mom said the special she saw was an hour long each night, but I forget how many nights she said it was on. It also had to do with a lot of new experts. Like a cold case series, but real life. She said it's on demand, but we have different providers. I'll have to check though. Glad you mentioned it because I was very interested when my mom told me about the one she watched last week.
