Why are these Tsunami stations in event mode?

[link to www.ndbc.noaa.gov]
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73552095

21 of the 22 went into event mode yesterday after the 7.8 Solomon Islands earthquake. They typically stay in event mode for about 24 hours. They should be stopping soon. : )

Thanks for posting. I have been watching this quake activity in Mexico and it has me a little concerned.
The activity in Mexico started on October 20, 2016 with just one quake.

Magnitude 4.5
Region VERACRUZ, MEXICO

Date time 2016-10-20 15:21:17.1 UTC
Location 17.69 N ; 94.55 W
Depth 151 km
[link to m.emsc.eu]

Since then the activity has increased in frequency and in magnitude. Like I said yesterday, I am seeing a pattern between the quakes in Mexico and the the bigger quakes that are happening. I find it very unusual that EMSC site is not posting these quakes as they happen, instead they are doing a quake dump all at once at different times of the day. Notice the quakes I posed this morning, they were not listed last night when I was updating this thread. When I go back to check if there are any pop ups or missed quakes, all of a sudden there are a massive amount of Mexico quakes.

Thanks again for posting. Please update us if you feel anything, hear anything, or find out any information. Please be safe! Have a wonderful day!
hugs

The reason we are seeing more Mexico (and Peru) quakes on EMSC now is because they added new networks in October. See Finland's post below. : )

Those mentioned upticks coincide with my analysis that the reason we see more earthquakes is because well, now we have two networks more(LIM and UNM). I'm not here to shill or debate, but sometimes you have to take logical explanations as well. Most of the uptick clearly has to do with 3-4.4Mw quakes being now reported.

Here is a screencapture of felt events in Peru seismological site. This is taken directly from Peruvian sources. Notice how we are totally average pace for november.

We have to agree to disagree on this matter :)

 Quoting: Spirit Warrior ~8~

Maybe still adjusting to the added network? Not sure, but the frequency hasn't increased, we are just now seeing them due to the added network. : )
 Quoting: Simple27

Hmmmmm....adjusting???
I get that we are now seeing them due to the added networks. But, I also believe that since adding the networks, you can clearly see that the frequency and magnitude has increased each day. Mostly 3's and maybe 1- 4 when they first started reporting these quakes. Now, there are more 3's that are closer to 4's and more 4's that are getting closer to 5's....but what do I know! 1dunno1 Just sharing what I am seeing and charting.

Okay I now have the rough estimate (too time consuming)
and a forecast.

46% chance that a 7+ happens in the next 3 days based on 117year historical sample.

Same here, sharing what I've been watching. Maybe 'adjusting' was the wrong word. But between the two added networks that's quite a bulk of data being added to EMSC. They aren't 'hiding' the earthquakes, just slower to report the newly added networks' quakes, which is why I used the word adjusting.

I took all the Solomon Islands quakes 7+ and looked for 7+ happening in a week's vicinity. There could be a few percent margin of error but it's close...

One more thing, I did not count the aftershocks... so if those are included of course the probability rises significantly. But for our interests I thought only locations which were different from Solomon Islands matter.

I don't think they are hiding the data. I find it interesting that they are dumping all Mexico quakes all at once at random times of the day. All Mexico quakes seem to be lurking/present around the bigger quakes we are experiencing. That's all. There has always been something ominous and strange about Mexico. There are many stories about the land and the secrets it holds. I just find all of it interesting. But, never did I say they were with-holding/censoring Mexico quakes.
Last night, I did say that about Oklahoma quakes.

You aren't bombarding the thread Warrior. I'm just trying to shed some light on the Mexico quakes now being reported on EMSC. I too thought we were seeing an increase in activity at first.

You have a good day too. See you at 6:30pm EST.

Pretty awkward!
It maybe historic or unprecedented for that location!

Yes, rare. Only 14 quakes there 4.0 and above since 2004. Largest being 4.8 and there was one other 4.7 (both in 2013).

Solar Wind and Aurora

The solar wind continues above 600 km/s and is contributing to beautiful aurora around the Arctic Circle. Sacha Layos captured the lovely photo below last night from Fairbanks, Alaska. Great job Sacha and thanks for sharing!

Enhanced geomagnetic activity will remain possible during the next 24 hours while a high speed solar wind stream continues to be geoeffective.
