Weekend has been very good, thanks. Makes it hard to go to work again tomorrow (even though I like the new job)! Thanksgiving was great, out with some friends friday, got my tree decorated and some turkey stock made yesterday. Today will be a few errands and mentally preparing for another work week. Oh, and making soup with some of my fresh stock :)

Hope you enjoyed your weekend too. I'm really glad you moved somewhere you like, and I hope it's the beginning of a positive phase for you!

This brings me to dutch's warnings.....

When major earthquakes (at least 4-5 6.0+ quakes over the past weeks) along with massive eruptions begin, a 9.0 is just around the corner......

Could we be looking at another boxing day type earthquake in Indonesia?

Hard to say at this point. There's been so much drilling there, how do we even know what's natural and what's fracking? Still, there has been an uptick there the past day or two. And that energy should move east, but we've only seen 1 quake that I recall on the New Madrid. I would think there should be a bit more activity than that.

Sounds like a solid weekend. I haven't had fresh soup made with fresh stock in ages, sounds real banging!

Yeah work is work, same cheese different cracker. I'm still watching animals lol staying at a mansion the next couple days watching 4 pit bulls and 3 horses.

Heading to Dallas on thursday for a few days with the family. Half my family is Redskins football fans, the other half cowboys fans. So we are going to the game in dallas next thursday as a family Christmas gift - should be fun.

That will be a fun trip to Dallas! Ugh, Redskins and Cowboys - two of the teams I dislike the most (grew up a STL Cardinal fan - teams were in same division back then, along with the stinkin' Giants). Always a good match up though, I'm sure that would be a fun game to attend live! The mansion gig doesn't sound bad either! At least you're getting some good gigs with this dog walking biz. I love horses so that part of it is an exciting bonus to me - hoping you like horses too. I'm assuming you're at least comfortable with them or you wouldn't have agreed to it.

MoN, you must start making homemade stock for yourself! It's so easy, and I've never understood why more people don't do it. There seems to be a mentality out there that it's difficult or complicated, but it's quite the opposite. Just keep any meat bones/carcass whenever you might have some - after buying one of those rotisserie chickens, after a holiday turkey, hambone, steak bones, etc. If you don't want to make stock right away you can throw the bones in a bag in the freezer and use them later. When ready, just stick the bones in a big pot, and ideally throw in a few whole carrots, celery stalks (leafy parts are especially good), a quartered onion or two, some fresh parsley, a bay leaf or 2, salt, a tablespoon or so of peppercorns, and a few smashed garlic cloves. Those are the basics, but sometimes I add other veggies to the stock if I think of it, such as turnips, parsnips, etc.

Fill the pot o' bones with water. How much might depend on how many bones you have. With 1/2 of a 15 lb turkey carcass (my friend kept the other half so she can make stock too) I made 16 cups of stock, which for me is 2 batches of soup. You can also use part water, part store-bought stock or broth to help the flavor along and/or stretch out the amount if you are short on bones. I often use 1/2 and 1/2 anyway- I like it bursting with flavor! Bring it to a good simmer, put the lid on, and let it simmer for as long as your heart desires. The longer you go, the more flavor it will have. I simmered mine for about 4 hours yesterday, and that's typically my norm. Strain it and discard all the solids. Put in fridge overnight and the next day you will see any fat has accumulated on top. Scoop it off as best you can, and then you're ready to make soup! Freeze whatever stock you don't use - will stay good for a while, and it's handy to have some in the freezer when you feel like shit and need chicken soup but have no energy.

I love stock so much sometimes other people give me their bones! I saw one of my BFFs friday, and he said his mom was going to have a turkey carcass for me, woo hoo, more turkey stock! But seriously, start making your own stock and you will never look back.

Sorry that was so long.

Just screen shotted your reply so i can try and make some stock myself one of these days! Thanks for takin the time to type it all out. It's probably been over 5 years since i had home made stock. My uncle recently went hunting and brought home 2 big bucks. I remember years ago eating some venison stock he made and man, it was so good. He sent me home with some, and i cooked rice with it. So damn good. He is actually in Japan now visiting his brother, but when he returns he's going to have some venison goodies for me, i'll see if i can score some bones! His next door neighbor is a butcher and will prep the meat of the Deer he tags. My favorite is the venison sausages with jalapenos and cheddar cheese in the middle.

Damnit woman, now i'm hungry.

Yeah i am a "fan" of the redskins. Don't care about football as much as i once did, but the trip should be fun. Will be good just to be with the family though - they are a fun bunch. Last time we went on a trip together as a family i got thrown out of the bar with my cousin for trying to sneak and drink a bottle of patron in the club LOL good times

I'm not into venison, but I bet that makes some delicious stock! If I have fresh stock I typically use it for soup, but if you freeze it in small amounts you can take it out as needed use it for general cooking - such as making the rice you mentioned. Growing up, my dad was making stock constantly, and we had a freezer full in the basement - chicken stock, beef stock, sometimes ham or turkey. I most often make chicken stock. Turkey stock is a treat to me because it's not like I have turkey bones very often. And actually fresh beef stock is not something I have much, as I never really have beef bones, and it's hard to come across cheap beef bones at the store - unlike ham stock for example - you can get all kinds of cheap pig parts to make ham stock.

haha, I'm not surprised you guys got booted out of the bar for trying to bring in your own booze. lol. You guys will have fun, I'm sure.

Currently I want to fist fight a Christmas tree.

Do a coin toss. Losser puts the lights in the inner part of the tree, winner puts them on the outside. Must swear to never touch the tree lights after each is done AND cannot move the lights the other put on! There, solved!!!

My mom and I had to do that and after that, the following year we swapped places. Current placing was put on the outside of the tree box - or on a Christmas box if real tree was used.

Of course this only works if you put tons of lights on a tree like we did.

Yukon fracking operation shut down due to earthquakes

YUKON, Okla. —

The Oklahoma Corporation Commission has shut down some fracking operations in Yukon after a series of earthquakes rocked the area this week.

Residents say they’re shaken up after at least three 2.5-magnitude quakes hit the area.

But residents say these aren't your typical tremors.

“Normally earthquakes are kind of rolling,” Debbi Cunningham told KOCO. Instead, he says these are large jolts they don't see coming.

“We hear a loud boom that sounds like 10 or 12 trash cans full dumped on your roof, and then the house will start shaking,” Cunningham said.

Some ornaments may be in place due to throwing them at each other...

No, in all seriousness, he would hardly touch the ornaments after the lights fiasco. The man has patience. I would've left me if I was him lol!
