Increased solar stream and geomagnetic potential today. Coronal hole is slowly rotating from earth facing position but its effects are still being felt.

Earthquake in Wales felt across Greater Manchester - live updates
[link to www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk (secure)]

According to the short video in this article, the 5 largest quakes in the UK area are as follows:

6.1 Dogger Bank in 1931 (out in the middle of the ocean)
5.4 Lleyn in 1984
5.3 Hereford in 1986
5.2 Argyll in 1880
5.2 Market Rasen in 2008

ETA:
Just saw this tweet from the British Geological Survey. They mention this is the largest quake since a 5.2 in 1906, which was not mentioned in the video above.

@BritGeoSurvey
This is the biggest event in the area since the 5.2 magnitude earthquake in 1906.

"THE SOLAR WIND HAS ARRIVED: Earth is entering a stream of fast-moving solar wind that could spark bright auroras around the Arctic Circle this weekend. The gaseous material is flowing from a wide hole in the sun's atmosphere. NOAA forecasters say there is a 30% chance of geomagnetic storms on Feb. 17th and 18th."

Louise Craig, from Connah's Quay in north Wales, said it was "the most excitement I've had on a Saturday afternoon for a while".

"I get a lot of fat wood pigeons jumping up and down on my chimney and I first of all thought the noise was them but they must have put on a heck a lot of weight to make the house shake," she told the BBC.

Donna Johnson in Caerphilly said she was "really scared".

"The house started rocking, and I said, 'oh my god the house is falling down'. We have a bungalow, and there is risk of subsidence here," she told the BBC.

"I ran outside - I was shaking like a leaf... The cat went outside before me, so she must have known."

Sue Field in Shifnal, Shropshire, said she felt the tremors from her armchair.

"I thought I'd had one too many wines for my birthday lunch," she said.

This earthquake is only about 50 miles from Hinkley Point - our new Nuclear Energy site.

They do fracking here too.

The fracking proponents are starting to sound like Baghdad Bob. All is well, fracking is perfectly safe and does not impact the environment at all. Trust us.
