Prayers sent for Steve and Arnies friend.

A little over a year ago I lost my Mom to pancreatic cancer. She was diagnosed in July and she was gone just after my Dads birthday in October.
Later the next year in June my Dad became sick with massive chills every 8-9 hours and the urgent care said angina and sent him home. The next day the ambulance had to be called and we went to the ER. There the nurse very first thing said that he was sepsis. He was transferred across the ER to the ICU where he was stabilized. It was a UTI. After 7 days in the hospital and then 2 weeks in skilled nursing on IV antibiotics he was OK. It was a VERY close call. Best wishes and prayers sent.

Septic shock is what my husband was in hospital for last year. 11 days in ICU, 4 in cardiac main and they wanted 2 weeks in rehab but he nixed that and came home to do it.
 Quoting: ~Jazzy~

After all of that he had 90% blockage and a stent put in the first day of July. Now after 6 months he can get off of the plavix and we are getting him ready for hip replacement in a couple of weeks.
My Mom was 88 and my Dad is 96.

Totally off topic (aren't I always?)...

Anybody else notice that you can't find peppermint flavored antacid tablets anymore? I've been to 4 different stores now and all they have is fruit, fruit smoothie and wintergreen.

I've been thinking this was going to end in doom 100% for them. Knowing that others here have gone through this with loved ones who made it out is so very helpful right now.

I love you all! Seriously, from the bottom of my heart. <3

Sort of nervous because I texted my friend 16 minutes ago asking how she was, and she hasn't responded. She always responds quickly. Within seconds. Even tonight. Aside from this last text. :\

***She replied as I was typing. Things aren't looking good. He's having trouble breathing and they are going to intubate him. They told her the next 5-6 hours are crucial. Please pray if you do so!!

Hubby was intubated and given paralytics. It will allow his body to work to fight the infection, while the respirator HELPS his lungs to breathe and keep them from collapsing. It's a good thing.

Simple...tell her not to be scared because of what she is going to see. He'll be intubated, have a catheter and MULTIPLE iv's. (Hubby had 19 at one time) He'll be wearing BP cuffs on his ankles, heart monitor tabs and they might put in a PICC line (a catheter directly into a major vein in the neck, chest or groin), depending on how his blood pressure is doing.

I won't lie. Sepsis is fatal 50% of the time. It all depends on him and how fast they can get the infection under control.

It's freaky looking as fuck when you first see all the shit they have them hooked up to but it's necessary. They basically blast the hell outta the infection from every direction. But, because of the massive doses of antibiotics and the fact his body is already compromised, they have to give other meds to help maintain blood pressure and kidney function.

His blood pressure is low. That's why they're having trouble with his veins. His legs are purplish because of blood flow and depleted oxygen. The intubation will help pink them back up again, but it will take some time.

The next few hours are critical. Let the doctors work and pray.

One good thing though...when they are getting to the point where they can bring them out of it, they won't remember a damn thing. And they'll have some stories to tell of things they 'saw and heard'...like a dog sleeping at the foot of their bed and protecting them...lol. Hubby still swears it was there.

I relayed your message to her. hugs

The calmer she can remain, the better it is for him. THEY CAN STILL HEAR WHAT'S GOING ON, paralytics or not.

Yes, this I know and will let her know. Just in case she doesn't know.

Sent some more prayers, that sounds really bad! Does she know what caused this?
