I had actually started reading that thread earlier today, but didn't bump it so thank you for sharing it here. I was skipping through only reading the OP's posts but didn't have the time to finish.

Obviously it's more likely that he's trolling, but I keep an open mind. Still haven't gotten to that part. Still haven't caught up any further yet tonight lol. But I plan to.

ND - glad the surgery went well. Keep up the good recovery!

WA - your kind heart is what everyone notices about you! Just remember, God loves you just as you are!!

ID - sorry for your loss! It's always hard to lose someone. Glad there was at least a little family reconciliation. That gives a measure of peace.

Now my turn to ask for prayer - I raised my grandson Ethan. He's 20. Has a fiancee, and they are expecting a baby girl on May 22. But Ethan started using drugs again recently. And last night he just started going bonkers. He particularly fixates his anger on me. They stay in a trailer on our property, and I was worried enough about his state of mind that hubby & I spent the night in town with our son. Today, after coming home & hubby leaving for work, Ethan came in demanding his paycheck (he works for us, and I fired him for not actually going out to work and lying and saying he did). His anger escalated, and I thought he was going to hit me. He made other threats as well. When he went back and started arguing with his fiancee, I called the police. He has been taken to a drug/psych facility and a court-ordered stay until at least Monday.

I know he's in the best place, and he definitely needs help. But it's been a bad couple of days, and we could really use your prayers. And I know you guys are good about that. I'm praying he has to stay for 30 days. Could still be out for the birth of his daughter. But he needs help badly.

Thank you for letting me share - I've been home by myself just about all day.
 Quoting: justanothergranny

Oh my, I am so sorry that you're going through this granny. I'm sure this is all breaking your heart on top of the other emotions that come along with it.

I'm not sure how long this has been going on (you mentioned he started using drugs again), but please know that your grandson is still in there and he CAN be reached. It may seem impossible at times, like these times that you're currently going through, but it is possible.

I hope that his mind clears up enough by at least Monday to understand why it came to what it did. Again, this is possible, however the longer he remains in treatment, the better the chances for the clear mind.

I haven't caught up here yet with any replies to your post, but I assure you that giving up on him and turning your back (I am NOT saying this is what you are doing at all) isn't what is best. A lot of people preach 'tough love' with drug addiction/addicts, but the majority of those people have not had a personal experience with it. Tough love is not a good idea. Tough is fine, but not tough love. He needs your love to survive that disease. The disease of addiction.

He is not the person that he really is when the drugs are involved. I'm sure you know this. Once the drugs are out of his system for a bit, his mind will clear up. And his angry/violent behaviors will stop.

The rage you experienced from him in this recent situation with him not getting a paycheck, was all addict. Not your grandson. He needed his next fix and needed that check to get it. When you refused the check, that monkey on his back got angry.

You did the right thing.

When I say not to go with tough love, I'm not saying to enable him. You can be tough and loving at the same time. And the decision you made was the perfect balance. You didn't toss him on the street. You called the police and got him help. You can now rest tonight through Monday knowing that he won't overdose. He is safe and his mind is clearing every hour that goes by.

Prayers for him, you and your family.

He is young enough to turn this around. And do so before his baby will ever know about this chapter of his book unless he chooses to share it some day down the road.

Thank you for your wonderful words of encouragement. He had a bad migraine this afternoon, but the staff at the facility haven't done much to help. He called me (can't believe he gets so much phone time!), and when I told him I couldn't come get him out, he got angry all over again. Right now all he sees is that I called the police and he ended locked up in this facility. He hasn't reached a point of admitting that if he hadn't DONE the drugs, I wouldn't have had to call the police! He has a long way to go. I just have to be strong through his anger. I just want him to realize he HAS to stop the drugs. For himself, his fiancee and the baby. Thank you for the prayers!

Thank you for your wonderful words of encouragement. He had a bad migraine this afternoon, but the staff at the facility haven't done much to help.  Quoting: justanothergranny

You did the right thing again by NOT getting him out. I'm sure a part of you feels terrible that he's in a facility right now, and with a migraine while staff are unhelpful, and I'm sure he plays that up knowing that you love him so much. You ARE being strong. You're doing a great job with such a life-changing situation.

He definitely doesn't have a clear mind yet. He's in withdrawal and will be for a number of days, depending on how much and how often he was using. But right now, all his mind can focus on is getting out of there and getting high. Getting high will take away the withdrawal symptoms. That's likely why he has a migraine too. He only needs a few days to get through the worst of the withdrawal. So Monday, at minimum, is the short-term goal. By then he will at least be more reasonable to talk to. He'll still want to get high, but he won't NEED to by then. That in itself makes a big difference in the attitude.

I really do hope and pray that he beats this thing sooner than later.
