Not necessarily. Also reminiscent of 2011 was the lull in quakes right before the 9.0 hit. We’re not done. Not by a long shot.

If this is like 2011 we should've foreshocks, in 2011 a big 7.2 foreshock hit in Japan and then 2 days later the main quake hit

Right now 2 days ago a 6.0 in Japan
so either doom repeat or bust

I pretty sure I've read somewhere, years ago that bad rainy weather can affect crusts. That is why my theory of big ones being more likely to occur in season transitions- especially spring to summer and Summertime stays unchanged for now.

Hvo confirmed the idea that the eruption is still going but at a very low rate during the night. There was some footage of the lava flow on the 7am update video on BIVN, and some small spattering vents, both are still incandescent which shows that they still have some feed or they would be dark by now.
I don’t know if they were actual vents or rootless methane vents though, but there is definitely still some activity.

It also looked like there could have been some activity at the most uprift part of the fissures, there was some smoke around it and more steam than before.

hi
Only two more mornings of waking up at the crack of dawn! Just two more mornings and that episode of my life will close.
Just two more mornings of saying "Get your ID, your phone, do you have pencils"
Just two more mornings before the "school years" come to a close.

Important points: volcano drainage in Hawaii continues to be a concern, especially with the sudden uptick in Japan quakes. Was fairly quiet there until today, where they've seen a few 5's. Concerning considering it's following the Hawaii activity, as well as the pattern of 2011 (somewhat).

U.S. forecast starts around the 1:01 mark. Expect around a 5.0 off the Coast of Oregon. Expect a swarm in Yellowstone. Expect a series of mid 4's along fault lines from San Fran down to San Diego.

IF there would be a megaquake like in 2011 as a result of the Hawaii activity, he said that would change his U.S. forecast, and we could see activity in the 6 range along W. Coast USA.

It's scary. Was just catching up on this on dutch's FB page. His latest post says this:

ALERT: The greater Kilauea magma chamber is now FULLY draining , in addition to the collapse of Pu'u O'o crater a few days ago 11.5 miles East.

He's concerned because it appears to be FULLY draining, and doing so quickly. He is concerned this is too reminiscent of 2011 and is keeping a close eye. Also said the EQ activity may not be over there - could get another big one depending on what's going on with the magma.

I also want to add this comment from his FB page from a local in Hawaii. I found this interesting:

"I am 2 miles from the recent eruptions, the northeastern end of the most recent fissures seems to have stopped, new cracks are appearing towards the southwest end of the current line of fissures, across Highway 130, as if going back in the direction of the source, towards Pu`u O`o"
