There is a lot going on to point to the large increase in quakes. Possible 7.5+ quakes.

We had a M-flare overnight that was 3.1 from 1936 which is a BDG sunspot that is dead center Earth facing. This did produce a small CME that will arrive on Earth about Jan 1st-2nd.
We have a have a large coronal hole that will be geo-effective soon. See 3-5MinNews at the 3:54 mark to see the size of that monster.
Then there is ISON - I don't know that that will be an issue at all, but just in case, the info is out there that we are going through the debris/dust field at this time through about Jan 10th or so.
Hopefully nothing will happen but eyes open and no fear, God is in charge.
