CME update at 13:15 UTC (8:15am EST).

An update was released by NOAA SWPC and despite the plasma cloud being late, are still calling for an impact at some point today.

"The ongoing Solar Radiation Storm peaked briefly just above the S3 (Strong) threshold but is now in decay and currently at S2 (Moderate) levels. Enhancement back across the S3 level is possible with the anticipated coronal mass ejection (CME) arrival. The CME, originally expected to arrive around 0800 UTC (3:00 a.m. EST) today, January 9, is now slightly overdue. However, pre-arrival signatures from EPAM data on the ACE spacecraft still show this transient en route. G3 (Strong) Geomagnetic Storm activity is still expected on January 9 and 10."

Does that site take a little bit to update? It was almost 2 hours ago though. Just curious

I've been wondering the same. Yesterday they were saying midnight going into today, and now I'm seeing midnight tonight going into tomorrow. Is it even possible for it to have been coming so fast and then suddenly slowed down 24 hours? I was wondering if maybe the speed was possibly inaccurate and that may be the cause?

Lower energy proton levels measured by the ACE Spacecraft / EPAM instrument continue to gradually increase this afternoon. This is a sign that an expected, albeit slower than anticipated, interplanetary shockwave may be approaching. The solar wind stream remains near 400 km/s as we await signs of a sudden speed increase.
