AKObserver User ID: 3198164 United States 06/04/2014 08:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Talk about controlling the masses Scientist learn to erase and restore memories in brain Wiping out memories at a press of a button – just like with a ‘neuralizer’ from the Men in Black movie – may soon become a reality. Researchers have managed to erase and then restore lost memory in genetically modified rats with a flash of light. The study by researchers from University of California in San Diego, published in Nature journal , is the first cause-and-effect evidence that strengthening or weakening connections between neurons in the brain can influence particular memories. “We can form a memory, erase that memory and we can reactivate it, at will, by applying a stimulus that selectively strengthens or weakens synaptic connections,” study senior researcher Dr. Roberto Malinow, a professor of neurosciences said in a university press release. AKObserver User ID: 3198164 United States 06/04/2014 09:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Intense action at the Pavlof volcano in #Alaska prompts regional airline to cancel flights | Airline PenAir said cancellations continued through Wednesday as the it continued monitoring activity hourly. Pavlof is located in an uninhabited region, nearly 966km southwest of Anchorage. The volcano lies below a route frequently used by jetliners flying between North America and Asia, but those planes generally fly at elevations of 9,144 meters and would likely be unaffected by ash at lower elevations, the Alaska Volcano Observatory said. According to geologist Game McGimsey, diffused ash from Pavlof continues to reach heights as high as 7,315 metres. "The eruptive activity continues pretty strong," McGimsey said. "There is lava fountaining going on. It's very visible at night time from web cams." [link to www.aljazeera.com] |

This has been the WORST week ever at my job! My computer crashed out of nowhere (ya, hmmm) on Saturday (when I'm not in), I had already pre-planned on taking Monday off (just in case, lol) and got back to the torture chamber, I mean office, yesterday to find a computer which could not be used, and which was also the company's "server." My computer acted as the company's server. So if/when my computer shits the bed, the company as a whole suffers. But naturally, I suffer most. Because the logic in that place is that I should be responsible for fixing the problem because I happen to work at the computer that is, and shouldn't be, acting as a server for the company's network folders/files. Over the years I have had to learn, on my own, how to work on computers...IT stuff. With zero background/school on these things it is extremely frustrating to have to learn it on your own. Takes longer than it should, which = wasted time. I have NO time to waste. The shit storm is still brewing in there because I have yet to get a new computer (how this is even a true statement blows my mind!) so we have been in a world of disaster there. CS, I shit you not, it got so bad/intense there today that I texted my mother and asked her if I could temporarily move back home (after being on my own for years) if I truly needed to walk out today. The last time I felt the way I did today was when I was kept in the hospital overnight due to my heart rate. No joking, I'm having far more serious chest pains tonight than I was that night. But I'm not going to the damn hospital. I know that's stupid, but it is what it is. I'm not going. I won't even tell my mother because she would come pick my ass up and make me go. I just can't. That would only further stress me out. Okay, rant over....I'm gonna go find me another rabbit hole to get lost in. ~*Ride the Wave*~ |
