Truckload of Abandoned Rancid Chicken Found
MISSOULA, Mont. — Sep 25, 2014, 7:37 PM ET

A truck dripping rancid juices from thousands of pounds of rotting chicken sat in the heat attracting flies Thursday at a western Montana truck stop, where an Idaho trucking company employee abandoned it.

The driver left the trailer containing approximately 37,000 pounds of frozen chicken near the Flying J Truck Stop west of Missoula after the company refused his requests for more money, authorities said. The chicken was worth $80,000.

The truck was discovered Tuesday. It may have been left there more than a month ago, Nampa, Idaho, police Sgt. Joe Ramirez said.

I heard on the news they were looking for a bio-hazard site to take this to. Either they said it would cost $80,000 to get rid of it, or that they had already spent $80,000. Either way, it is ridiculous. Just burn it and get it over with!!!

I was reading about this earlier. They are calling in 'chicken' specialists to deal with it as a bio-hazard, but....they have to wait on the insurance company!? The insurance company needs to determine if the trailer can be re-used or if it will be a total loss.... scratching

I know I am no expert or a certified 'chicken' specialist but I am quite certain I know that that trailer is a total loss...just write it off and be done.

Why not just wrap it in plastic, like they do with boats being transported via truck, go find a big hole somewhere, Berkeley pit perhaps? Not like there isn't already a host of other nasty stuff in the pit. 30k+ pounds of salmonella laced chicken shouldn't hurt a thing. If that doesn't work, just dig a hole near a cesspool and bury it there. DC comes to mind....

I think the chemical soup in that pit could dissolve almost anything. Makes a person wonder how many bodies have been dumped in there over the years...

If I recall correctly, some scientists were sent down there in a metal boat to take some readings and they couldn't finish their testing as the bottom of the boat started melting.

That may in fact be the birth place of Godzilla's cousin, perhaps feeding the chicken to him will keep him at peace.... 1rof1

Hot water is coming from your water heater which has a large tank. It will take a while before the 'dirty' water fills the tank and you begin to get it out of the tap on the hot side, if at all.

Water is drawn off the top of the hot water tank. So when the dirty water goes into the tank and sits for awhile, the particulates will settle to the bottom. If you don't ever come close to completely draining the tank you may never see 'dirty' water at the tap.

That said, you will want to make sure and drain the tank after the sediment clears. After the water on the cold side has cleared, you'll need a garden hose and some time. There will be a faucet at the bottom of the water heater. Shut off the water heater, run your hot tap, shower would work best, until you get cold water. This will help reduce the pressure from the heated water. Once you have cold water running, shut of the water inlet to the water heater, crack open the faucet and let the water drain. Keep the hot water output open on the water heater and open the hot side on the tap furthest from your water heater. This will break the vacuum and allow the water to drain.

Hopefully you have a floor drain nearby. After all the water has drained, turn cold water back on, with drain faucet still open, and let water drain out for a few minutes. Once you no longer see sediment close the drain faucet, turn water heater back on and make sure inputs and outputs are open. This process should be done annually, regardless, to extend the life of your water heater, more so if your water normally has high amounts of sediment.

Also, prepper tip, since your water heater holds large amounts of water. If your water source becomes tainted, and you want to make sure you have potable water on hand, immediately shut off the cold water intake to water heater. You have now sealed off the tainted water. When you need water for whatever reason, use that same drain faucet at the bottom to draw some water off. You may need to crack open a faucet in the house to break the vacuum and get it to drain. If you don't immediately shut of the heat, make sure you do so after you have drained some of the water to avoid burning up the heater elements. Keep in mind if you open the drain while the water is still hot inside, it will be under pressure and can cause scalding.

hugs

thank you

dogs are agitated and water is still brown cold from faucet- hot is ok?
 Quoting: AKObserver

 Quoting: Sol Neman

What Parents Need to Know About Enterovirus

The enterovirus, also known as EV-D68, was first identified in the U.S. in 1962 and then lay dormant for some 30 years. Since 2008, small clusters — ranging from four to 30 cases — have periodically cropped up throughout the country but none with the vengeance of the recent outbreak. Kansas City, Missouri, has been particularly hard-hit, with hundreds of children hospitalized at Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics. Mary Anne Jackson, the hospital’s director of infectious diseases, shares her thoughts on what you need to know about the virus.
