When I buy organic foods sometimes the checker mention something. But I think it's more that they mean did you grab that on purpose or on accident, because organic always costs a lot more. I don't think they're really meaning anything bad about it. You have to remember a lot of people don't think about things being healthy or not healthy, or poisons or whatnot. They just see a dollar for an apple or a dollar for a pound apples. Of course they're going to get the least expensive. Don't judge me. But I was at the grocery store today and I actually found a bag of dicks. Louie C.K. would be envious of me. Those checkers, in some cases may just be trying to avoid the ensuing argument or complaining by the customer when they see how much a product rings up for if they grabbed it by mistake. I worked retail for many years. It's amazing how crazy people can get in the check out lane...over what, to me, is very minor and easily fixed. Some people would rather just yell at you than have you actually fix the problem....
