The official history notes 1427 as the date of the official discovery of the Azores archipelago. But a series of discoveries show that there was a prior occupation of the islands, for people who just there passed or however left. The latter seems to be a Roman necropolis, identified in Lages, Terceira.
The topic is very controversial but traces exist. And merit further investigation. In this photo gallery joined some of the archaeological discoveries only in the Island.
Photos provided by Marisa Toste, Felix Rodriguez and Nuno Ribeiro, the latter two researchers, along with Anabela Joaquinito, have highlighted the discovery of buildings that look very prior to 1427.
