LET'S GO BACK 7 YEARS AGO...

Two Russian mathematicians have caused a stir in the normally staid world of theoretical physics.

Irina Aref'eva and Igor Volovich have not only proposed a mechanism for time travel, but they have given it a timetable as well. The pair, from the Steklov Mathematical Institute in Moscow, has been speculating on what might happen when the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is switched on.

The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) is expected to commission the LHC in May 2008. It will smash protons together at speeds previously unobtainable. Each proton will have the same kinetic energy as a flying mosquito, but that energy will be concentrated into one a trillionth of a mosquito's volume.

Collision like this can do very strange things to the fabric of the universe known as space-time. Space-time can bend and distort into loops that physicists call "closed time-like curves," known to sci-fi fans as "wormholes in space-time" or just "wormholes."

"As the Cernier company prepares to test the world’s largest supercollider physicists express concern that too much is being left to chance..... tiny black holes could be produced which hopefully would decay into what is known as Hawking radiation (the tinier the black hole, the faster it evaporates). If these black holes fail to decay, however, the consequences could be disasterous. CERN software developer Ran Livneh has expressed some concerns about the project:

This physical realm is unknown, and dangerous phenomena might arise. Any physicist will tell you that there is no way to prove that generated black holes will decay..."

I Found This Thread To Be Very Interesting...There Was A Lot Going On Surrounding CERN, And I Believe There Still Should Be Concern Given All The Things That Are Aligning. Kind Of Cool To Go Back In Time. :)

Thread: ALERT! World’s Largest Supercollider Could Destroy the Universe

SW, The part that is sad for me personally is we could have made choices in the 70's and 80's that would have made our human impact on this planet smaller and more efficient - WE KNEW - even back then we could do a better job.

The part that was most interesting to me though, is human beings really have not changed that much in the 40 or so years worth of scattered National Geographic's I was looking through.

I found two really cool things though - I want to go drive the Oregon Trail I have always been very interested in it. Yesterday I was in an antique shop (in Florida) and found a Oregon Trail Journal published in 1949! And today going through the stack found an issue with an article and pictures of the trail as well.

I wasn't even trying to find this stuff - its coming to me - solidifying my bucket list desire to retrace that old trail. Its like a personal message to me - a message of Love from the Higher Power that I am seen and my wants can be met. Its a small step anyway.

I remember going to part or the Oregon Trail as a kid. It was some school field trip. Was like 3 hours on a bus, we spent and hour there and 3 hours back. It was boring as Hell. This was in the early 90s, so not like we have ipods or smart phones to play games on. We sung and card games broke out. I listened to the new M.C. Hammer tape, side A and B about 3 times over.
