I ordered a foot cushion for under my computer desk. Now I can relax in comfort instead of using my center speaker as a foot rest. I no longer use my home theater system, and haven't done so for awhile now since I stopped watching TV several years ago... Everything I need/want is on Netflix and I ripped all the DVDs I own anyway, so who cares... |

Seem the majority of people heard coming towards them before it hit. Look at this one... Scotts (2 km SE from epicenter) The sound was like a loud banging, and I was thrown up and down in my seat. It was like someone had grabbed the floor and was shaking it violently ~*Ride the Wave*~ |

How is that POSSIBLE for a 4.2 earthquake? Earthquakes east of the Rocky Mountains, although less frequent than in the West, are typically felt over a much broader region than earthquakes of similar magnitude in the west. East of the Rockies, an earthquake can be felt over an area more than ten times larger than a similar magnitude earthquake on the west coast. It would not be unusual for a magnitude 4.0 earthquake in eastern or central North America to be felt by a significant percentage of the population in many communities more than 100 km (60 mi) from its source. [link to earthquake.usgs.gov] But still...140 miles away?! ~*Ride the Wave*~ |

Also the other night before the PNG 6.8 my dog was barking and I commented to my mom "Ya know, perhaps she is barking at the movement of the tectonic plates." No less than a couple minutes later, the 6.8 in PNG popped up on my phone. |

[link to blogs.woodtv.com] Between 1872 and 1883 a number of moderate earthquakes were centered within Michigan. On February 6, 1872, three shocks lasting 30 seconds were reported at Wenona. No additional information is known about these tremors. Reports from Redford and Greenfield Village, not far from Detroit, indicated a minor earthquake occurred on August 17, 1877. It was noted that horses were frightened during this shock. Some persons reported hearing a noise like a train. On February 4, 1883, an earthquake cracked windows and shook buildings at Kalamazoo (intensity VI). This shock was felt in southern Michigan and northern Indiana. Cities as distant as Bloomington, Illinois and St. Louis, Missouri also reported feeling this earthquake. |
