this is where the 6.1 occurred in Chile this morning...

The City of Calama is just south of the mega-copper mine Chuquicamata and primarily serves as a bedroom community for the workers and their families. This is the prime copper producing province in the world mainly due to the hyper arid environment. (Reich et al, 2009)

Geology:
From Antofagasta to Calama runs the Antofagasta–Calama Lineament (ACL), a series of Northeast trending strike slip faults which is thought to have controlled the emplacement of the extensive porphyry copper deposits. (Palacios et al, 2007) The town has consequently had its share of earthquakes including a 7.8 in 2005. (The town was also completely destroyed in 1870 by an earthquake!)

the area is surrounded by Volcanoes and fault lines....

we may see some bigger ones here....

my guess, and it's just a guess, is that every 200 years or so the sun slows its output and Earths shield is weakened, allowing more cosmic rays to enter and heat the core, thus softening the crust through lava movement the more it is heated the more venting we will see, and as it continues we will see more shifting of tectonic plates, there seems to be an anomaly with the poles as well, instead of the cosmic rays coming in at the poles it seems we may be experiencing multiple poles, where cosmic energy enters in other spots other than the poles, this might expain why the east coast was hammered this winter and the west coast did not even get a winter....

A reversal happens over hundreds or thousands of years, and it is not exactly a clean back flip. Magnetic fields morph and push and pull at one another, with multiple poles emerging at odd latitudes throughout the process.

To appreciate geomagnetic reversals, one needs to know some aspects of Earth’s magnetic field. Our planet has a magnetic field with North and South Poles, just like a bar magnet. Geophysicists reason that the Earth’s magnetic field is created by the motion of the fluid iron outer core, which creates electric currents that in turn produce the magnetic field. At certain times in the past, core flow changed, causing the poles to flip - what was once the North Pole is now the South, and vice versa. Lava becomes magnetized as it solidifies to rock on the ocean floor, creating a record of the magnetic pole direction at the time. The magnetic lava rock perturbs the Earth’s magnetic field, causing a negative or positive “magnetic anomaly” depending on whether it adds to or subtracts from the Earth’s field.

Sounds like the possibilities of a Grand Solar Minimum also are higher. Some research I have done in the past show that there is higher volcanic activity then, which adds to the cooling effect from the solar minimum.

You are adding a magnetic reversal to the mix. Could be some rough weather and food shortages ahead.

That rabbit running across the top of the avalanche was wicked crazy!!!!

We don't have weather like this here just north of Denver. Out of 31 days in May, we had 28 that saw rain or snow. One this 10th day of June 8 days of rain. Yes, it rains, a day or two and then complete bright sunshine. We all feel like we are living in Washington or Oregon. Not tons of rain but the grey sky is so unusual. We usually see 300+ days of sunshine.
