WATCH: Archive footage of the 1990 Baguio earthquake

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the 1990 Baguio earthquake, a magnitude 7.6 tremor that killed more than 1,600 people and shook the nation's psyche to its core.

In this archive footage, GMA's Romie del Moro reports on the immediate aftermath of the earthquake. Complementing his report from the studio, newscaster Jose Mari Velez spoke in a heavy and somber voice about the mounting desperation surrounding the lack of precious lifelines.

I really wish we would get a nice thunderstorm here. It's SO humid and in the 80's almost every day. I think it was 90 here on Sunday. The humidity this morning before I left for work was at 88%. Right now, at almost 6:30pm, it's still at 72%. And the news is talking about how humid it's going to be tomorrow. Ugh. I don't like it at all. We need a good storm to cool it down. Last week was awful too with the humidity.

We are 82% humidity right now but it just rained and is only 66. Before the rain about 30 minutes ago, it was 88.

So far for July, we have had 12 days of rain.

Washington National Guard Rehearses For Cascadia Megaquake

The Washington National Guard joined by officers from Oregon and Idaho are preparing for a massive military relief effort.

More than 1,000 Washington National Guard members and state and county emergency managers across Washington rehearsed this week for a worst-case earthquake scenario a magnitude nine rupture of the offshore Cascadia fault zone.

“I'm going to have to go back and say, 'Look, they're going to really need a lot of help,’” said Boise-based Brigadier General John Goodale. "When you see what a Cascadia event -- the earthquake -- would do to the state of Washington, that is probably the most eye-opening thing I saw.”
[link to ijpr.org]

-Not a super long story, but there is more to it and a few of the quotes are a bit unwavering. Like the Brigadier General from Idaho, I posted above. It's like they know Washington will be so bad off, they won't be able to help themselves.

Escape on foot because roads will liquefy and start running when you hear dogs barking: Geographers offer advice on how to survive the earthquake predicted to obliterate the Pacific Northwest
Cascadia 'megathrust' faultline is 1,000km-long from California to Canada
It will clash with 700-square-mile plate in Pacific Ocean causing tsunami
Only way to escape is on foot as roads will 'liquefy', geographers say
Start running when you hear dogs barking, they will be reacting to the sound of compressional waves which humans cannot hear
Citizens will have 20 minutes to walk or run to higher ground

Apologies if already posted. So much going on, it's hard to keep thoughts straight

Helium leaking from the Earth's mantle in the Los Angeles Basin: The Newport-Inglewood Fault Zone much deeper than previously thought

Professor Jim Boles of the University of California, Santa Barbara's Department of Earth Science, and his team, have found proof of helium leakage from the Earth's mantle along the Newport-Inglewood Fault Zone in the Los Angeles Basin. Discovery indicates the current fault zone is much deeper than previously thought, and that it used to be a subduction zone, where the North American plate collided with the Pacific plate, about 30 million years ago.

Well, if life is but a dream and this is all an illusion, there are some philosophers who theorize that at some level thoughts are causing it all and the universe is a hologram, so in the end, it probably will be my fault when it happens and not the cascadia fault. But since it's a hologram, it was my choice to die in the end..or when I get turned or switched off. I think I have been spending too much time on glp, but it beats the alternative..?

In the last 30 days, there has only been 19 quakes that are 6+ and only one 7.0 this is just too quiet.

Only two that are 6.5+
