The way I look at it, man made or not, at least they ARE warning about it. As to their reasons, that's between them and G-d. And if it's just to fear monger, it will become plain soon enough.

I don't want to reach the point that I become so jaded because of their constant lies that I believed there wasn't a shred of decency left in any person that worked for any of them.
