I find it odd that we haven't seen an aftershock in the 6 range from that EQ. Not even 5 range.

Spent most of the afternoon cuddling & playing with my furbaby...she's come to expect that the day she's no longer in heat is a "celebration" day-complete with Fancy Feast Appetizers!!. (Naaah, SHE'S not spoiled... ;)

My friend, Sunita, called a few hours ago. Their plans changed & they're going to stay in Peshawar, Pakistan where there's plenty of damage. She said outside the city where everyone has mud homes-everything is gone, mainly due to rains they had in the past week before the quake. They're hoping to start setting up tent cities today as more rain is expected. These poor people; if it's not severe flooding, it's a major quake. And, as usual, it's the poorest of the poor who are most affected.

She said, so far, there's been aftershocks, but "nothing compared to the aftershocks in Nepal." Her hubby, Bala, is going to try & join her in a few days-but the shelter they run for abused women & girls has come under attack in the past week or so as India's courts decide on new guidelines (punishments) for abusers. It seems that the men of the Muslim persuasion feel that "abuse" is a part of their culture and since Bala, Sunita & others opened their shelter & take in Muslim women, (most shelters in that area DON'T); they're taking it as an "attack" on their culture-that they're "brainwashing" the women and trying to convert them to Hinduism or Christianity. It's INSANE that in 2015 we still have these evil practices and views!! I don't think I'd have the patience to deal with them!!

BUT, on the positive side: Bala says these views are only held by the most conservative, mainly older Muslims in the small rural villages. Now that there's more opportunities for the younger people; especially in larger cities where they're forced to assimilate; things ARE changing-slowly, but at least there's SOME progress!! Heck, in parts of India-again, in very rural, isolated villages; you still occasionally hear of backwards local customs that many associate with Hinduism. They have nothing to do with Hinduism, but with the Village "governments" thinking they can set their own laws & punishments-no matter how kooky or evil.
BUT, these things no longer happen in a vacuum with cell phones & social media and things are quickly changing across India.

May I ask why you don't get your cat spayed? Some places do it cheaply. Shelters, I mean. It's very uncomfortable for them when they are in heat and they will eventually find a way out unless you are in a high-rise.
