My mother told me that she had already bought a telescope for me but then saw this one and it was better so she got this one. I've seen mixed reviews about it. But I am more than an amateur so I'm sure it will be great for a beginner! (the only telescope I've ever had was from Toys R' Us)  I all I have are binoculars. I'll get up and pot a pic soon.
