I hope y'all are having a good weekend thus far! I have a condition which causes severe headaches and I'm 3 days into a killer so not so much here.

I was wondering how many of you fine folks have actually been in a quake. I spent a week in Vegas a few years ago and they had some small quakes. They made me feel a little queasy and dizzy. Did y'all feel similar?

Thanks to you all for such a kind thread.

Thank you.

I don't have a death wish or anything, but I've always wanted to feel a decent quake. Perhaps I'll book my next vacation to Vanuatu..

Other than a fluke tiny 2+ I happened to feel as a kid when visiting relatives in Ohio, the only other quake I ever experienced was this one: [link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)]

I'm sure I've talked about this here before but the sound of it woke me first. Unlike any other sound. And my entire bed was moving back and forth, with some strength. My entire house felt like it was moving and I had trouble getting my footing upon bolting out of bed. It was one of the scariest things I've ever felt. Also exciting, and boy was the adrenaline moving. I can only imagine a big one hitting in these parts if that was a 5.2. Next time I'm bolting out the front door into the street, which was my initial instinct that time, but I stuipdly talked myself out of it.

That sounds both awesome and terrifying! I have read some about the sound you mention...a sound that is more felt than heard.

Thanks for your input!

One of the aftershocks the next morning was a 4.6. I felt that one too, but there was a big difference between that and the bigger one during the night, as far as how they felt. The second one was just a little bit of sound and some general light shaking and not scary at all. The night before it was like grasping to hold on to something. I seriously though my house was coming down. I will never forget that sound of the actual house moving. It will be a pile of bricks if a big one hits. Hence why I'm running out the door next time. PJs and bad hair be damned!

edit to add: I was not at the epicenter of these quakes, either. I live a good 120+ miles west.

No kidding! Bedhead and all!

Something that strong would scare the crap out of me. I'd like to feel one, but certainly not anything significant. Maybe a 3.5. I could handle that lol.

I have felt many over the years, but this one is the one that sticks out in my head the most. I felt like I was on a boat and could feel the waves under me. Then about 20 seconds later, I felt another one. A big hard jolt...like my boat hit something hard. LOL! Actually not funny...quite scary.

I bet our experiences were similar, based on our locations and that this quake was just slightly larger than the one I felt in '08. Scary indeed. Despite living close enough to New Madrid to be affected, it took that quake in '08 for me to have an EQ plan in place.

Add me to the list for wanting to feel a decent sized quake. I don't think I'd want to be in the epicenter of a 9.0 though.

I was asleep during Northridge and staying at my grandma's. She didn't bother waking me up. I was pissed cause I didn't get to feel it. But my mom was pissed moreso for different reasons. LOL
