Yeesh. My mom just has to get sick on the last day of my vacation.

FML.

She's all taken care of though.

Hope she's okay hf

She's doing better. Must have some sort of nasty stomach flu. :(

I'm on watch for her though.

It's always something. I really shouldn't complain, but I was hoping for one more day of nothing that I had to deal with.

Atlantic hurricane season starts June 1: La Nina may fuel most active season in 3 years

Experts are calling for an above-normal hurricane season this year with 14 named storms forecast for the Atlantic basin.

Of those, eight are predicted to become hurricanes and four are predicted to become major hurricanes.

Due to a combination of factors, this season is expected to be more active than any season in the past three years. Experts warn that those living along the Atlantic coast should be on alert.

Spent the day yesterday up HIGH in the Rocky Mountains. Went over Trail Ridge Road. It's the highest continuous paved road in the United States, reaching an elevation of 12,183 feet.
[link to rockymountainnationalpark.com]

Took pics of the kids standing next to where they cleared the road of 18 feet of snow. People were writing their names on the side of the snow, which looks like a soft glacier. It was beautiful up there - even snowed for my California nephew which he loved!

Yeah, I got a feeling in my gut that we're going to get hit this year. It's been a while since the Keys have endured a good one. At least we know it takes us exactly four hours to put up the hurricane shutters and secure the boats and items outside. All the same, I hope my gut is wrong.

Good, now, if it's not starting to look better in a couple days, call the doc back, have them prescribe a tier one antibiotic and tell them you'll pay cash for it. Insurance company will pressure docs into prescribing 2nd and 3rd tier and wait to see if it improves, then will allow 2nd tier and after 4 weeks only will they approve first tier, which would have done the job in the first week if not for their stupid bullshit. So bypass that and pay cash if not showing sign of significant improvement in couple days. Friend went through this with son who got a bee sting on leg that turned into cellulosis.

At this time the state of North Rhine - Westphalia, Germany, is with extreme storm warning for wind, rain and lightning; neighboring regions of northeastern Belgium and South Holland are also being directly affected by the same storm. 31,500 electric discharges in the past 2 hours (average of 260 per minute).

THE MOTHER'S DAY STORM, PART 2? The strongest geomagnetic storm of 2016 happened almost one month ago, on May 8th (Mother's Day), when a solar wind stream hit Earth's magnetic field. During the G3-category event, auroras were photographed in the USA as far south as Kansas and Arkansas, and the entire landscape of Argentina's Belgrano II base in Antarctica turned green: [link to spaceweathergallery.com]

Is it about to happen again? The same stream of solar wind is returning. ETA: June 4th and 5th. NOAA analysts are forecasting a possible G2-class storm when the stream arrives. That's not as intense as the Mother's Day Storm, but still worth watching. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras, especially in the southern hemisphere where darkening autumn skies favor visibility.
