Happy 4th of July Weekend! And how appropriate, I might add, that Great Britain has just declared ITS OWN independence from the EU!! Congratulations, England!
So here's the deal... as we say in Jersey.

The two YouTube links below (to the BREXIT film and an Interview with Lord Monckton), do a great job of explaining what's going on: How the EUROPEAN UNION works and what was (and CONTINUES) to be at stake for those within the EU, and for those outside the EU, as well. Like us.

It's also quite relevant to all of us here in the states because there are still those in Washington who are trying to create a North American Union (NAU) -- our equivalent to the EU. Yet, even if the North American Union doesn't materialize, the Trans Pacific (Trade) Partnership (TPP), which some of our bought-and-paid-for representative are pushing forward right now, does exactly the same thing. The bottom line: Countries governed by those unions and trade partnerships lose all their independence, all their democracy, all their rights. It's that simple.
BREXIT (The Film)
Speaking as both your regular Type A-obsessive-thinking-person (LOL) and a filmmaker, BREXIT impressed me. It's down to earth; it's well produced (high quality); and it's got some very funny bits in it, somewhat reminiscent of Monty Python, with that dry, clever, British sense of humor. It actually surprised me. I wasn't expecting it. ;)
More importantly, though, it pretty well sums up what is arguably one of the most important issues in the world today; and for that reason touches all of our lives.
Like many, I was surprised that Great Britain actually voted to pull out. I didn't think they had it in them. But they did -- and they stand as an example for all the world. Sure, they will have some challenges up ahead, but who doesn't agree that it's better to live with challenges as a free country... and as a free people... than to live as slaves, governed by the dictates (as in dictatorship) of faceless, unaccountable, bureaucrats.
As it stands, most of our so-called "representation" in Washington is deplorable. But it can get much worse in the coming years, especially if we sit back on our laurels. How the next year plays out -- whether we will continue to live in relative freedom or we lose all our rights -- is really up to us....to you and me.
So as we begin celebrating another July 4th INDEPENDENCE DAY weekend, let's devote some of those fireworks to the fiercely determined and gutsy people of Great Britain. And besides, aren't they really our great, great relatives?
God Bless America... both the old and the new.
Jim

BREXIT: The Film
Britain's Lord Christopher Monckton interview -- some powerful points here, too.
