The Italian EQs are just north of Vesuvio and Salfatara. Called a friend of mine in Pozzuoli who said both volcanos are swarming with geologists to note any changes in the lava domes.

Perugia is loaded with 300 year old buildings made of tufa stone. The devastation is going to be incredible.

Please open your hearts and pray for these people or send good thoughts, whichever your inclination. They are going to need so much help and love. Thanks to those who already have done so.

This is heartbreaking.

yeah "just" north if you by "just" mean 300 km away.

Perugia has nothing to do with this quake, it's several kilometers north. The quake hit an area between 3 regions, the biggest city nearby is Rieti.

The Vesuvio will wake up and erupt one day, this is certain, but it will NOT do it because of this quake, just like it hasn't in the past. This is a completely different fault.

That entire region is referred to as Perugia in Southern Italy which is where I lived. All of the faults in Italy are connected. You should know this. They are also all very close because of how the landscape of Italy is constructed and its topographical features.

You also know Vesuvio and Salfatara are monitored and increased efforts are being made right now, at this time, to watch the lava domes not only visually but through instrumentation. Salfatara itself has street level vents in Naples and Pozzuoli which are easily accessed. If you've ever driven or walked into Naples from the south you would also know this.

300 klics in eruption zones are nothing especially in a zone like Italy again because of its topographical nature.
I'm very glad they have increased their awareness of what is happening now, and hopefully nothing will come of it. Keep them in your prayers.
