Re: Earthquake Thread ~ Always Updated*5.5 Panama*5.5 Loyalty Islands*5.4 Tonga*5.4 Japan*5.3 Philippines*5.2 Kermadec Islands*5.1 Easter Island
The epicenter was relatively close to the surface — about 7.5 miles down — and its effects were felt especially by residents in the town of Ferndale, Calif., which is home to some 1,300 people and at least one cattle farm.

Thank you! Got one more:

2005/13/6: 7.8 Tarapaca,Chile
2005/15/6: 7.1 Off Coast of Northern California

2010/10/1: 6.5 Offshore Northern California
2010/27/2: 8.8 Offshore Maule, Chile

2014/10/3: 6.9 Offshore Northern California
2014/16/3: 6.7 Tarapaca,Chile
+
2014/1/4: 8.1 Offshore Tarapaca,Chile

To sum up: I fear Chile is going to get hit with another massive quake... pattern tells watch for an 8+ coming. December. I really don't like what I'm seeing, because of the massive lull currently taking place in Chile as I explained just before the California one. Daymn.

Sitting at the dentist office, for daughter not me.

Last night I was going to ask Finland what the precursors might be for CA since it has been so long since they have had a big quake. This 6.8 was off the coast and still not on land.

Would still like to know if he, Finland has noticed a pattern for any of the larger quakes in CA. The bay area has been on mind for over a week. Less so would be the LA area.

Other than the relation to Chile events I have nothing constructive to add, need to check history for more correlations.. There are others on this thread who are really up-to-date on Cascadia events...

I would not panic yet on Cascadia ripping up, there has been four times in the last 12 years a quake of this magnitude has happened without all hell breaking loose. Chile on the other hand as said has reacted very violently on Northern California events. Stay vigilant, I guess.

The quake led to inconveniences for some commuters in the San Francisco area. Bay Area Rapid Transit trains temporarily moved at a reduced speed after the temblor, leading to delays of about 10 minutes, the transit system's Twitter account said. The move was precautionary, CNN affiliate KGO reported.

Considering the new shaking now happening in Mexico I also fear that So Cal could see at least a 6.5 quake as well.

It is the only area that has not really moved at all yet.

Statistically I would say it's next to impossible to say when the Cascadia megaquake would be because the last one was in the year 1700. I will however check California 6+ quake history and say if there is any place other than Chile to really worry about.

Yeah have to add that I'm totally clueless when California will go.. because it has been so long and there is nothing to compare basically... we know the danger is there. Pinpointing date is difficult.
