I'm not sure there is an official number/answer. Some of the New Madrid Seismic Zone earthquakes are considered to be aftershocks from the 1811-1812 earthquakes.

Not building - aftershocks.From which big quake are you thinking? How long ago? There was an 8+ within the last few year - that one. Could be. : ) Just weird to me how they all popped off in such a small period of time. And so many 5+ magnitude.
