Quadrantid Meteor Shower will Light Up Skies Tonight

QUADRANTID METEOR SHOWER: Today, Earth is passing through a stream of debris from shattered comet 2003 EH1, source of the annual Quadrantid meteor shower. This is normally a strong shower. In 2018, however, meteor counts will be sharply depressed by glare from the waning supermoon. Northern sky watchers may see little more than a handful of Quadrantids per hour after nightfall on Wednesday. The shower's forecasted peak around 22 00 UT on Jan. 3rd favors Europe and east Asia.

Mount St. Helens Is Rumbling Again With 40 Earthquakes Since New Years Day

Since New Years Day Mount St. Helens has experienced 40 earthquakes within its vicinity as tremors continue every few hours. The most powerful earthquake was a magnitude 3.9 that occurred around midnight west coast time about 5 miles from Mount St. Helens and 23 miles from the town of Morton.

The 3.9 magnitude earthquake was felt in Portland but there were no reported injuries or damage. Since that earthquake there have been 16 more earthquakes, averaging about every half hour with magnitudes from 0.6 to 2.6.

It is common to experience swarms of earthquakes at Mount St. Helens. While it is certainly not a sign of an impending eruption, the earthquakes are a result of an active volcanic system.

Mount St. Helens is most commonly known for its major eruption in 1980, the deadliest and most economically damaging volcanic event in the history of the United States. The stratovolcano is situated just 96 miles from Seattle and 50 miles from Portland, making an eruption especially dangerous.

3.9 quake near Mount St. Helens 2nd strongest since 1981

While a series of quakes are common around the mountain, the Wednesday episode stands out.

“This was sort of notable because this was a fairly large earthquake. So 3.9 is the largest earthquake we've seen in this particular area. But even right around St. Helens, this is the second largest earthquake we've seen since 1981,” said Thelen.

Mount St. Helens erupted on May 18, 1980.

The Himalayan Natural Crystal Salt Lamp with Bulb and Dimmer Switch is made from hand-mined salt crystals found in the Himalayan mountains. The fiery orange glow is reminiscent of a burning hearth. When the lamp is lit, it emits negatively charged ions into the surrounding air. Negative ions can help eliminate positively charged particles, such as air pollutants, which can make you feel tired and lethargic. The Himalayan salt lamp and air purifying pillar also helps to reduce unpleasant odors in the air, which creates a fresher environment in your home. This product is made to last for many years. With its calming amber color and purifying abilities, the Himalayan natural salt lamp is also an appealing decorative piece.
