I think the Taiwan quake today was bigger than reported. Granted, a shallow 6.4 can do some damage, but there are a lot of testimonies on EMSC from Taipei (102 km away) that mention the strength of this quake.

Ozone at lower latitudes is not recovering, despite Antarctic ozone hole healing

Global ozone has been declining since the 1970s owing to certain human-made chemicals. Since these were banned, parts of the layer have been recovering, particularly at the poles.

However, the new result, published today in the European Geosciences Union journal Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics, finds that the bottom part of the ozone layer at more populated latitudes is not recovering. The cause is currently unknown.

Ozone is a substance that forms in the stratosphere -- the region of the atmosphere between about 10 and 50 km altitude, above the troposphere that we live in. It is produced in tropical latitudes and distributed around the globe.

A large portion of the resulting ozone layer resides in the lower part of the stratosphere. The ozone layer absorbs much of the UV radiation from the Sun, which, if it reaches the Earth's surface, can cause damage to DNA in plants, animals and humans.

2 dead, 177 missing after magnitude 6.0 quake strikes eastern Taiwan

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- Two people have lost their lives, 177 are missing and 219 have been injured by a powerful and shallow magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck eastern Taiwan's Hualien County last night (Feb. 7) at 11:50 p.m.

After the magnitude 6.0 quake struck 18.3 kilometers northeast of Hualien County hall at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, an intensity level of 7 was felt in Hualien County for a full 70 seconds, causing multiple buildings to collapse, trapping many inside as they slept. Of the 177 missing, 147 people are trapped in the 12-story Yunmen Cuiti residential complex which partially collapsed and titled 45 degrees, reported Apple Daily.

Any idea what this might be? Seen from #bernalheights in #sf heading from southwest to southeast about 40 deg elevation. #SpaceX fairing re-entering? Looked like a split-tail comet.

*cell phone ringing (tune: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly)*

Me: "Hello?"
Voice: "Where the hell are you?"
Me: "Hey Boss (definitely The Ugly.) I went home early today."
Boss: "WFT. The day hasn't even started yet!"
Me: "Huh? You okay boss? It's way past 4 pm!"
Boss: "No it isn't. It's 7:26 am to be exact."
Me: "How is that possible? Must be an GLP glitch."
Boss (sighs): "God, you moron! Not that Grab Life by the Pussy shit again!"
Me: "No boss, GLP, GodLikeProductions. Conspiracy. Someone messed with the time again. And by the way, it's spelled moran."
Boss: "Godlike.. Moran? What???"
Me: "You said moron and it's moran. Like crash isn't crash, but carsh and brain isn't brain but brian."

* a long silence*

Me: "Boss? You still there?"
Boss: "You sometimes leave me speechless."
Me (proud look): "Thanks boss!"
Boss: "It wasn't a compliment. Get your ass in here now or I'll show you how fired is spelled."
Me: "You mean fried."
Boss (grumbles): "Yeah that too!"
Me: "Okay. And boss, I was just mezzing with ya. Be right there!"

*click. end of conversation*

Bosses, no humor at all. Who the heck invented them anyway?

Anyway, enjoy your timezones everyone. Keep your head clear and above water. Keep shaking the right and safe way and try to put things into perspective.

You are beautiful. Love to all. hf
