GROWING SUNSPOT: Sunspot AR2699 continues to grow, more than doubling in size since it appeared on Feb. 4th.

The sunspot has developed an unstable "beta-gamma" magnetic field that harbors energy for M-class solar flares. NOAA forecasters estimate a 15% chance of such explosions on Feb. 9th.

With two primary dark cores larger than Earth and a scattering of moon-sized magnetic condensations stretching more than 100,000 km across the surface of the sun, AR2699 is an easy target for backyard solar telescopes.

Was thinking about Pillar today, it's been a while since he's come around. Site shows he hasn't logged in for over a month (under his Winged Hussar name). This worries me, considering the health issues he was posting about when he was last around.

Nope, no snow coming here. It's gonna be in the 50's tomorrow and Sunday. Upper 40's on Monday. We do have a lot of rain coming though.

Oh, we MIGHT get flurries tonight. But not even an inch.

The weather guy this morning was funny. He showed 1 to 5 inches. Threw his arms wide and said "I know I know, but we just don't know"

We're supposed to get ice tomorrow. The worst of it is supposed to start early evening with it continuing off/on until Sunday morning. At least the Mardi Gras parade should go off without a hitch (that kicks off at 11am). All the more incentive for me to cut the day short. I have no business going to begin with, with this cold. I'm going to brave it though. We won't be outside much and I think I can hack it until late afternoon.
