I deleted the link for my reply as I know you like to delete your pics rather quickly. : )

I'm happy they're working out for you! You most definitely were overdue for some new specs!

Your area is also very beautiful. You should share more pics with us.

Thanks, Simple!! When I start going outside more after my knee gets a bit stronger, perhaps.

METEORS FROM HALLEY'S COMET: This weekend, Earth is passing through a stream of debris from Halley's Comet, source of the annual eta Aquariid meteor shower. Forecasters expect the shower to peak on May 6-7 with 20 meteors per hour in the northern hemisphere, and twice that number in the southern hemisphere. No matter where you live, the best time to look is during the hours before local sunrise on Monday morning, May 7th. [sky maps]

Programmer Ian Webster created this interactive visualization of Comet Halley's dusty debris stream passing through Earth's orbit: [link to www.meteorshowers.org (secure)] <-- another one of those really cool interactive links!

It's after 6 o'clock for me and a Saturday. Is it drinking time yet? I think so. I'm going to walk to the Chevron.

I took a couple pics of the Olympic Mountains earlier this morning from the Rite Aid up the hill. It was around 11am ish.

I also owe Simple27 a pic of the pool. They cleaned it up quite a lot today and placed more chairs around it. I'll snap a pic on my walk in a bit. I'll upload them to imgu r and link them here later.

Just a side note, on TNT is San Andreas.

side side note. Over in the playground/picnic/pet area field area, two buildings up, there's a good sized group of people having a fun BBQ. Smells like the usual hot dog and hamburger fare. I'm going to nonchalantly pass by, even though it's out of my way to the Chevron. Just to see if I see a friendly face. I have been here about 2 weeks now, so I know a few people and a lady or so.

what is giving the eruption it's red hue?

was gonna ask yesterday but didnt get time. i get the feeling it's IMPORTANT for some reason
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 55469701

I'm not sure how accurate this is, but I read somewhere yesterday that the heat from the volcano caused the igneous rock in the Pu'u'O'o volcanic zone to oxidize and turn red, and then part of the cone collapsed after an earthquake and formed a crater. The red dust that resulted from the oxidization and the collapse then got mixed into the explosion and turned the ash plume pink/red.

Very reminiscent of 2011, this Kilauea draining bit. This is not going to end well. I fear for the Cascadian Subduction Zone since most activity right now is taking place on the Eastern side of the Ring of Fire, not the West.

Hold onto your hats, people. I expect a “really big one” to happen over the next 7-10 days. I am calling it.
