NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory photographed the fissure on Aug. 13th pointing directly at Earth: [link to spaceweather.com] Solar wind emerging from the hole is expected to reach Earth on Aug. 16th and 17th. The incoming stream of solar wind may be preceded by a CIR (co-rotating interaction region). CIRs are transition zones between slow- and fast-moving solar wind. They often contain shock-like density gradients and strong magnetic fields that do a good job sparking auroras. [link to spaceweather.com] ~*Ride the Wave*~ |

Sorry to hear about the flooding! It's a real pain in the back side!! And lots of work... Glad to hear the insurance company did the right thing!! And glad the wreck wasn't bad! Quoting: justanothergranny I agree with Isis - we are certainly being tested! It's been cooler here for a couple of days - have really been enjoying it! Saw pics of the rain in central TX - that area can have some monumental flash floods. News reported helicopter rescues of people in a camp ground that had to climb trees to escape the floods. Hang in there, everyone. Sending hugs and best wishes out to everyone here!!! Sure hope the worst of the N Alaska EQs are over...just have a nagging feeling it isn't. But I've been wrong before! Love & hugs to all... How are you feeling granny after your tumble? Doing ok - the soreness has gone, but the knee is still really black & blue! Glad I wear pants all the time! Thanks for asking! Been really tired from getting slammed at work. We are a week out from a MAJOR audit by the banking commission. Glad I've only been there a few months - none of the problems will land at my feet this time. And not sure I'll be there next year for the next audit. This is a really high-stress job, and while I can do the work, I'm just not wanting to continue to try to function in such a high-stress environment every day. Grandson continues to make progress...still have to find him an AA group to go to. I'm going to find an AlAnon for me. Sure seems like this has been a summer of bad extremes - fires, floods, earthquakes, droughts, heat...jeez! Hope everyone is having a decent week...we're almost over the hump, folks! On the downhill slide to the weekend!!!! TANSTAAFL - There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch |

Went through that back in 1979 - lived in a house near a bayou. House was up on 8 ft pilings, thank goodness cuz we had about 4.5 ft of water under the house! Flooded the laundry room, floated the freezer & ruined all the seafood we had in it. Lost some things we were storing downstairs. But it was still a mess to clean up! But no water in the upstairs, thank goodness. Hope the worst of the water issues are over for you both!!! I need to grab a quick bite to eat and get ready for bed. I'm bushed! Hope all are doing well - haven't seen anything from Curious for a bit. Probably working hard! Thanks to everyone who helps keep the info coming - and to everyone else who takes the time to post such funny/interesting stuff! TANSTAAFL - There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch |
