aww crap, that little bugger popped up much later I guess, because I never saw that when I was posting last night. Well, these are not something to get in a panic about, but we don't usually get in the high 2's very often, much less 2 of em back to back. *puts shoes back next to bed*

WTH is going on up there?

I hope that you don't have Columbia Gas!
 Quoting: mistersplinter

I don't, but for some reason that isn't making me feel any better about this. :\

My work is closer to the locations than my home is. Will feel better when I get home from work tomorrow. Puts some extra distance in between.

Haven't even been able to follow Florence. How's your area looking as of tonight?

They are replacing all the gas meters around here to some new "high powered" thingy, and this also involves some underground stuff with the gas lines, because they tear up the streets and some yards in the process. It's annoying and it's been going on for many months all over the metro area. Well, they are just now getting to my street, so it's about to get a lot more annoying. And last night as I was reading that thread about the gas explosions in Boston, I started freaking out a little bit. It sounded like they were doing the same work there that they are here.

ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY ALERT: Comet 21P/Giacobini-Zinner is about to meet a star cluster. During the the early hours of Sept. 15th, the green comet will pass directly in front of Messier 35, a system of several thousand stars in the constellation Gemini. Astronomer Bob King writing for Sky and Telescope notes that "the binocular view should be unique with the rich cluster appearing to sprout a tail!" The passage will occur between between 7:30 and 11:30 UT.

Little snippet linking witch trials to GSM:

Prior to the Little Ice Age, "witchcraft" was considered an insignificant crime and victims were rarely accused. But beginning in the 1380s, just as the Little Ice Age began, European populations began to link magic and weather-making. The first systematic witch hunts began in the 1430s, and by the 1480s it was widely believed that witches should be held accountable for poor weather. Witches were blamed for direct and indirect consequences of the Little Ice Age: livestock epidemics, cows that gave too little milk, late frosts, and unknown diseases. In general, as the temperature dropped, the number of witchcraft trials rose, and trials decreased when temperature increased.
