Mt Herbubreio, a majestic Tuya north of Vatnajokull glacier has been trembling since 10:20 this morning when an intense seismic episode began in and around the mountain.

The Seismic Monitoring System of the Icelandic Meteorological Office has detected more than fifty quakes, including four 2+ quakes. According to seismologists with the IMO the quakes have not been accompanied by any immediate volcanic activity. The majestic Herbubreio, which is known as "The Queen of Icelandic Mountains" was formed in a single eruption, and is believed to be extinct.

Herbubreio is located just north of the Baroarbunga volcanic system which has been showing significant levels of activity in recent years.
