TROPICAL CYCLONE SAVANNAH, CATEGORY ONE (17U)

At 3:30 AM CCT, Tropical Cyclone Savannah, Category One located at 11.3S 96.7E or 100 kilometers north of Cocos Island has 10 minute sustained winds 40 knots of with gusts of 55 knots. The tropical low is reported as moving south southwest at 6 knots.

Tropical Cyclone Savannah, category 1, is expected to continue to move towards the south-southwest and gradually strengthen during the next few days. It will pass close by to the Cocos (Keeling) Islands during Thursday morning.

Strong and squally winds and heavy rainfall may occur ahead of the system early Thursday morning.

Periods of GALES with gusts to 100 km/h are likely over the Cocos (Keeling) Islands during this morning and may persist until Thursday afternoon.

As the system moves southwest away from the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, moderate to rough seas and low to moderate northerly swell is likely to impact the lagoon area during later Thursday and Friday.

Heavy rain is expected with totals between 50 and 150 mm possible, easing later Thursday.
