I think that most of it has to do with what people have seen all along but the internet makes it so that everybody can see what happens. When it may have been written in a newspaper somewhere that most people of the world could not ever read now the information is just put out there for all to see. Twitter is like a world news paper if you don't get bogged down in peoples rants.

1. I grew up in the era of three commercial TV networks plus taxpayer-funded PBS. Virtually no one under the age of about 45 knows what that was like then. For one thing, news moved a LOT slower in those days!
