Got a weird question: Has anyone here done an overnight sleep study? If you have, what was it like and were you actually able to sleep hooked up to all those wires??

A couple of years ago, I did an overnight home study because of low oxygen levels, mostly during nighttime. It showed there was some sleep apnea but it was inconclusive showing mild to moderate obstructive apnea.

Now, the lung place I go, wants an overnight study at their center, which I keep putting off because...well....I don't wanna do it.... lol

Being a very light sleeper and not sleeping well in the first place, to me, this will just be a waste of time, imho, which doesn't mean it is true, just don't want to do the damned thing. Since I am a stubborn person at heart, the doctor's P.A., sent me a message and told me to follow a couple of links she was sending me and why they wanted to know if I do have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

Basically it comes down to this; I am fat (reality, not putting myself down), I have uncontrolled severe asthma and what might be mild to moderate apnea three years ago. Untreated, the OSA can cause severe uncontrolled asthma. Obesity pretty much causes OSA.

All that back story just to show, I need the sleep study which is now scheduled for the end of the month. Yuck-a-doo

Re: Earthquake Thread ~ Always Updated*5.4 Japan*5.2 Gulf of California*5.2 Southern Mid-Atlantic Ridge ~ Pg 20426
Good evening everyone. Have finally decided to break the ice and post. I've been back online periodically for the last week or so, but went for a long time without hardly turning my computer on. Long story short...my mom's passing and the financial hell we experienced for about 2 months took a massive toll. We lost half of our income, but our bills didn't decrease any. Pretty stressful for a while. But things are better, finally. I've had time to process my grief, things are better financially, and grandson seems to finally be on the road to a normal, drug-free life. God is good.

I hope everyone is doing well. I will eventually go back and read up on what I've missed. Just wanted to officially say hello, and tell those who have sent me messages, Thank You! Feels like finally coming home after a very long time away on a not-fun trip.

I know people who did this test and it gave them and their doctors more insight in how to help treat it better. It won't solve everything overnight, there is no such thing as a miracle treatment. But it really can make your quality of life better through changed food patterns, different rhythm and exercise, adjustment of medication etc.

In the end, quality of life is all that matters Angel. If spending such a short time there can improve your life for a longer time, then why not invest that little time. So stop delaying it, and just do it. Don't make me fly over and bring you myself... tounge

Did the sleep study 2 years ago, did it twice, one to prove to insurance that it was needed and 2 weeks later to determine the air pressure settings.

You don’t sleep well during the study while hooked up to multiple leads. The bottom line is you probably do need a cpap machine and you need to use it once you get it. Sleeping will be much better, snoring will stop and your breathing will not stop multiple times during the night.

Although I have had issues in the past, but that's probably due to my caffeine intake (of which is a lot).

Anyway. All of my bloodwork is normal, except for slightly elevated blood sugar. Anyway. Don't mean to brag about my health at the moment, but hey......

 Quoting: jures

Thank you for that.
I'd likely be given a BiPAP machine instead of a Cpap because of the asthma. BiPAP keeps the issue of carbon dioxide retention from happening which is a major issue with severe asthma.

In asthma, we can breath in but getting all the air out again doesn't happen. One keeps gulping air thinking we are starving for oxygen, because only half the air is coming out on exhale. The balloon never empties before being blown back up again, so we have carbon dioxide building up, which CPAP's make whose by forcing more air in but not letting enough back out. The PiPAP machines help this.
