State officials call the situation on #Maunakea “very dangerous” as hundreds of people gather to protest the controversial #ThirtyMeterTelescope project. At this time no #TMT opponents have been arrested. Maunakea Access Rd is now closed.

Got a weird question: Has anyone here done an overnight sleep study? If you have, what was it like and were you actually able to sleep hooked up to all those wires??

A couple of years ago, I did an overnight home study because of low oxygen levels, mostly during nighttime. It showed there was some sleep apnea but it was inconclusive showing mild to moderate obstructive apnea.

Now, the lung place I go, wants an overnight study at their center, which I keep putting off because...well....I don't wanna do it.... lol

Being a very light sleeper and not sleeping well in the first place, to me, this will just be a waste of time, imho, which doesn't mean it is true, just don't want to do the damned thing. Since I am a stubborn person at heart, the doctor's P.A., sent me a message and told me to follow a couple of links she was sending me and why they wanted to know if I do have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

Basically it comes down to this; I am fat (reality, not putting myself down), I have uncontrolled severe asthma and what might be mild to moderate apnea three years ago. Untreated, the OSA can cause severe uncontrolled asthma. Obesity pretty much causes OSA.

All that back story just to show, I need the sleep study which is now scheduled for the end of the month. Yuck-a-doo

I don't blame you at all for not wanting to have one done in a hospital setting. When my hematologist wanted me to have one done she didn't offer the at home test/kit. And like you, I knew it would be pointless to have it done in a hospital because I also have trouble sleeping in my own bed at home without wires everywhere.

Nef did one of the home kits. He's a solid sleeper though and if something wakes him up, he falls back asleep in like 3 seconds. I envy that lol. I honestly don't even think I could deal with a home kit. He handled it like a champion. His results were negative.

BUT, if you do have OSA and it's causing your asthma to be worse, it's worth going in and having it done. It may ultimately result in some relief.

I'm proud of you for making the decision (and appointment) to have it done.

I did it twice to ascertain that I had sleep apnea. So, of course they sold me the machine to fix that. 2.5 years later, I figured out the blood pressure pill was swelling my throat shut. So I paid for all that, plus had my throat scoped, so they could see why pills were getting stuck in my throat, so I suffered. They all got paid!!!!! soap

Did the sleep study 2 years ago, did it twice, one to prove to insurance that it was needed and 2 weeks later to determine the air pressure settings.

You don’t sleep well during the study while hooked up to multiple leads. The bottom line is you probably do need a cpap machine and you need to use it once you get it. Sleeping will be much better, snoring will stop and your breathing will not stop multiple times during the night.

I don't blame you, I'm also a very light sleeper and can't imagine trying to sleep in those circumstances. I have known people who did sleep studies where they have to go somewhere else to do it. They try to create a comfortable atmosphere, but most of the people I know who have done it did have trouble sleeping. I guess even if you don't sleep through the night, chances are you'll fall asleep at some point(s), and they can tell if you wake up due to apnea (breathing) or otherwise (noise or whatever).

I would be dreading it like you are, but the upside is it's just for one night (I assume). Just remind yourself of that and the fact that what they learn could be helpful to you in the long run.

I hope it helps them figure things out. Imagine how I will feel if this solved all my problems yikes

On the other hand, I would be very thankful to get my life back before I am older. Only 60, way too young to feel like I am 90 lol

Such a light sleeper that I know when someone quietly walks in my room. The door is open so that didn't make any sounds. Just the change in the vibe in the room I guess.

Good evening everyone. Have finally decided to break the ice and post. I've been back online periodically for the last week or so, but went for a long time without hardly turning my computer on. Long story short...my mom's passing and the financial hell we experienced for about 2 months took a massive toll. We lost half of our income, but our bills didn't decrease any. Pretty stressful for a while. But things are better, finally. I've had time to process my grief, things are better financially, and grandson seems to finally be on the road to a normal, drug-free life. God is good.

I hope everyone is doing well. I will eventually go back and read up on what I've missed. Just wanted to officially say hello, and tell those who have sent me messages, Thank You! Feels like finally coming home after a very long time away on a not-fun trip.
