Made me chuckle BigD...here's a true story

A few years ago, while driving (don't tell anyone!) I was trying to type a quick message to my sister about the cruddy day I'd had and ended with, "Calgon take me away!"

But spell-check had other ideas, which I didn't catch cuz I was driving! And my sister saw...Calvin take me away!

I knew something was up when she answered, in all caps, "WHO'S CALVIN???"

True story...

Lingering nor’easter expected to pound Massachusetts through Friday

“A significant and potentially dangerous situation is unfolding, which may catch some folks off guard as an early-season offshore ocean storm system develops,” the weather service said on its Facebook page.

Southeastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod and the islands will bear the brunt of the blow, with wind gusts of up to 60 mph, 3 to 6 inches of rainfall and as much as 8 inches in some pockets, while Boston could get 2 to 4 inches of rain and gusts of 40 to 45 mph, said Nicole Belk, a NWS meteorologist.

“This would be unusual for any time of year,” Belk said. “It’s not too often that an ocean storm will linger in our vicinity for two or three days because high pressure to the north of us is blocking it from moving.”

A flood watch is in effect until Friday morning, the weather service said, and “significant urban and poor-drainage flooding is likely.”

ALL the trees here are still full-on green, no change whatsoever,,,,,,used to be peak beauty was the 1st week of October.

(also, tomatoes wouldn't start to redden, and NEW BLOSSOMS CAME OUT ON THE PLANTS THIS LAST WEEK ! wtf...
I think I got five tomatoes off of 4 plants.

But this crazy DWARF apple tree, I'm STILL canning applesauce,,,,,,,,up to 83 PINTS ! (plus one large apple crisp) WTF ALREADY ! Probably have about 12-15 more pints to go, will it get to 100 pints ????????

Good job Arnie! We only got around 75 pounds of apples this year, due to 2 hail storms, and it being the off year for the trees. It's great that you are canning all of them, because I can't get people around here to do much. They don't understand that some day soon, they won't be able to buy applesauce in the stores! Those days are coming. Waste not, want not!

And you are out standing in your field...lol....(outstanding).

Agree,,,food prices are going to go up in the near future.
At least I'm prepped for the applesauce,,,,and some cans of sardines; guess we'll survive for awhile on that.

My thermometer broke, and says it's 71 degrees! I think they said it was 6 degrees this morning! Likely to be below zero tonight! I haven't dug my potatoes yet!!!

My canning birthday spoof/hack...

have done this for kids,,,

get a jar of whole Aunt Jane pickles.

remove the liquid and pickles, and put a quarter in the bottom of the jar, showing the year of birth from bottom. (get the quarter on e-bay)

put pickles back in,,,,,,,boil the liquid and boil some water.

put the liquid back in and fill jar just under the rim with hot water.

Put lid back on tight.

And set the jar on a rack in a stockpot with a couple inches boiling water in it...

Put lid on and process the jar for about 10 minutes in the boiling water.

It re-seals,

Tell the kid you found this in the grocery store and was amazed to find this quarter with his year of birth in the bottom of the jar.........

Works on adults too. Most are amazed,,some have doubts...

I'm thinking it's the wacky seasons over the past several years. Skipped seasons too, some years. Sounds like you might be skipping Fall season there Arnie. We have many bright beautiful vibrant leaves here currently. Not all of the trees have changed yet, but I'd say the majority.

Did I see something on the Weather Channel this morning about your area getting a blizzard soon? I'll have to check on that again!
