Same here in Alaska. Lots of avalanches happening. Rained all day yesterday. Warmer here than in Minnesota this winter.

In Papua my tent protected the underlying thin ice from the rain.

When I removed it, I realized the glacier lost 30 cm of ice in just 2 weeks.

Today we report in PNAS that the disappearance of this glacier is imminent. Not hard to believe, isn't it? [link to www.pnas.org (secure)]

"The expectation that SC25 will be comparable in size to SC24 means that the steady decline in solar cycle amplitude, seen from cycles 21-24, has come to an end and that there is no indication that we are currently approaching a Maunder-type minimum in solar activity."

Was a decent strong shake. We are right on the eastern coastline so I live approx 12 miles from the epicentre of this earthquake. It is in a similar area to our region's last big earthquake that happened in 2007. If this quake had been at a much more shallow depth than it was then I seriously think we could have seen quite a bit of damage to our city/region.
 Quoting: The Lone Ranger NZ

Sounds like it was stronger than reported! Thanks for the firsthand report! Hopefully no more EQs will follow.

I’ve spent the last two nights watching mountain climbing videos. Try a few. Climbing Mont Blanc, climbing the Matterhorn etc. some are just 5-7 minutes long. There are upper intermediate grade climbs so you don’t have to be major professional. Just need a good guide.

I've been watching Christmas baking competition shows lol!

Here's a show for you, starts this Thursday! I've watched it every year - it's based on the British Baking Show, but they are doing holiday-themed goodies. Three of the competitors this season are from the STL metro!

Thank you for the good luck wishes and congrats my friends. You are simply awesome! I decided to go to the prize ceremony tonight, so we will see. I took all measures to not take the risk to hear any result from the AJAX game, so I can watch it in relay when I get home: earplugs, music, blindfold (to avoid cheering or rampaging supporters.) It will work.

And the job interview. I am confident, have prepared myself by being me and that's about it. No nervosity needed, just healthy tension. And it happens if it happens. Maybe a second round and take it from there.

As said, you are awesome!

I like this, you got in the game AND the ceremony! This makes me happy, because I really felt you should go to that ceremony and celebrate your achievement. However, I know how important the Ajax game is to you, so I didn't say anything.

lmao that story! So hilarious. I can even visualize it. And it would be a trip in itself to see you and Sim and who ever else wants to come along. Even though I am sure Kickin' knows more about Amsterdam than I do, the coffee shops at least, lol.

And the names they give those weeds Sim. Looking good!

When in college (antiquity),,,I joined in on the marijuana
circle at a party.
I then noticed that the couch had some stuffing coming out of one of the back cushions.
For the next couple of hours I became profoundly aware of the very deep significance of couch stuffing and its multi-faceted ramifications, even to the workings of the universe.
I also became aware that I was exceedingly brilliant; hence, able to make sense of the couch stuffing, something that had escaped me until then,,,and also has escaped me since then.
That was it for me with the drug culture of the 1960's, except a roommate gave me some amphetamine so I could study for an exam (she was sleeping with the local pharmacist who gave her the pills). I was up all night long,,,planning out my entire life, making 4X6 index cards of what I would do each year far into the future. No sleep at all, and dragged myself to the exam somehow, can't recall the results.
So I have been clean since all that, except for cigarettes and coffee, no drinking either.

Lol, there might've been a little something else going on in that joint you smoked! Or maybe that was just how you responded to it. Either way, hilarious! Couch stuffing, haha.
