Anonymous Coward User ID: 78299651 Portugal 01/02/2020 12:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Towns indefensible from NSW bushfires By AAP17:01 Bushfires are expected to hit the 1300-strong township of Batlow this afternoon as other NSW communities prepare for extreme conditions. All people in the Snowy Valley town were ordered to leave by last night, with the 130,000-hectare Dunns Road fire expected to arrive by this afternoon. "The township will not be defendable," the RFS warned residents. "Embers from the fire may land in pine plantation adjacent to the township." A similar message was issued for Khancoban, Greg Greg and Tooma, where fire is expected to hit on Saturday. Friday marks the first day of a two-day statewide total fire ban and a week-long state of emergency. |

Simple27 (OP) User ID: 40488826 United States 01/02/2020 03:21 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Animal death toll climbing from fires Quoting: Luisport By AAP17:01 Millions of animals are dead and hundreds of thousands more will perish over coming days as a result of killer bushfires terrorising southeast Australia. Already-endangered species are being put at a greater risk of extinction, and the extent of the carnage may never be known. "The fires will have killed millions of animals ... mammals, birds, reptiles," Wildlife Victoria boss Megan Davidson said. And the threat is not over, with wildlife rescue groups likely to be helpless in many instances. "It is largely a job of euthanasing at this stage, both livestock and wildlife," Dr Davidson said. "They are so severely burned that there is nothing better you can do than end their suffering." In coming days more animals will die from starvation and heat stress as they battle to find food and shelter in their decimated habitat. The nationally-endangered eastern bristlebird is one species of concern amid the fires which are straddling the NSW-Victorian border. "There are only three populations in Australia and two are under threat," The University of Melbourne's Alan York said. ~*Ride the Wave*~ |

Simple27 (OP) User ID: 40488826 United States 01/02/2020 03:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Quadrantids: 2020's First Major Meteor Shower will Light Up Night Skies On January 3-4, Earth will pass through a stream of debris from shattered comet 2003 EH1, source of the annual Quadrantid meteor shower. This is normally a strong shower. The Quadrantid meteor shower is one of the most intense annual meteor showers typically producing meteors from a point in the sky near the North Star. Observers everywhere are encouraged to be alert for meteors throughout the dark hours of January 3-4. The Quadrantids' peak lasts only a few hours. The meteors will radiate from the northern sky, but appear in all parts of the sky. After the Quadrantids peak in early January, stargazers will need to wait more than three months for the next opportunity to see a meteor shower, with the Lyrids peaking on the night of April 22 into the early morning hours of April 23. Tried to sleep most of it away I mean no disrespect Angel and I know it must be a guy way of thinking, but you got that beautiful ring, the anniversary kiss and then he blew it for the day with a card saying "Always"? It's like those two guys talking. One says: "My wife doesn't understand me." And the other says: "I hear ya bro. Your wife doesn't understand me either." Women are just so much smarter than men. So give him some credit cousin. He obviously loves you so much, he even gave you a card. Not many do. ;-) I shouldn't have vented on here. Sorry. I know what he meant by it. The ring was from last year and after the card,if I could get the bloody thing off I would put it in the jewelry box where it belongs. Sorry for venting, only made it worse.
