The southern island of Mindanao was likely to bear the brunt of the damage, given its proximity to the epicenter.

Should extended cleanup be needed following the earthquake, several rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected to move across Mindanao through the weekend.

Due to tremors in El Paso from the earthquake in Culberson and Reeves County, the 2-1-1 Call Center is offline as staff had to be evacuated. Calls will still be answered by the network but the local specialists are offline.

Came across this article and thought it might be helpful to some of you U.S. folks. There are still unanswered questions, but this was the most specific info I've seen yet as to how all this is going to work.

I find it very odd they are automatically sending people a check if they filed taxes in 2018 or 2019. I just assumed it would only go to those who file for unemployment due to coronavirus layoffs. Why send the money to those who are still working and getting paid? That makes no sense to me and seems like extra spending the govt. doesn't need to be doing. Although I'd enjoy receiving a $1200 check, I'm still getting paid from my job and it's not necessary. I'd rather not take anything from the govt. if I don't have to, because I always feel there will be some caveat. I have seen nothing about an option to opt-out.

Coronavirus checks, direct deposits are coming. Here's everything you need to know.

Local tv station has online headline about 3 quakes, and said viewers from around west Texas called in to report feeling the 5. I remember our dogs barking funny about that time, but can't say I felt the quake although people from my town called the tv station.

The fact that the quake depth is only 2 km is troubling - that area shows lots of horizontal ground displacement. Last year online I saw drone photos that show roads with sideslip, pipelines that are now crooked, fence lines that have zigzags.

Don't remember seeing any history of large quakes, but the tv station story says the 5 was the largest EQ in over 30 years. So guess there have been others. Will have to do some online research since the librry is closed.

It's interesting, this situation is bringing out the worst in some, and the best in others. I went to TEN places on Monday looking for toilet paper. I'm not out- probably good for another 2 weeks, but I haven't seen any for weeks now so I decided I better try to find some when/where I can before I'm in dire straights. It's become sort of a personal obsession/challenge, hence why I went to 10 places in one day even though I don't need it yet. The last stop I made was at grocery in my neighborhood and as I checked out my few non-TP items I was talking to the checker about the 10 stops I had made that day looking for TP. A lady who was in one of those motorized carts on her way out heard me and stopped. She was an older lady and she interrupted and said she always buys TP when it goes on sale and so she has more than she needs stockpiled at her house. She asked where I lived and I told her. She said she wasn't far from me and offered to give me her address and said I can come by and she will give me some TP.

I'm telling you what, that warmed my heart. I wanted to hug her! But I kept my 6ft distance, lol. I declined the TP but thanked her profusely. I noted I still had a few of the mega rolls left and would be ok for a bit, was just trying to find some before I was out because I know it's hard to come by.

It's rather sad when we live in a world where one small act of kindness seems so foreign to us. I will always remember that lady and her kind offer.

Also, before people offer to send me TP I did find out one of my BFFs happened to get a 50 roll TP order just prior to this virus situation, so she's got me covered if I can't find any. I have no clue why she's buying TP 50 rolls at a time, she's single and lives alone!

Thank you GfG!!! I've been meaning to find somethng like this! It shows clearly where these quakes have been moving. FInd it strange that there isn't a fault line showing near the Snyder TX area - they have had a number of EQs over the past few years.

I'll search online & see if I can find the drone photos of the horizontal slip around the Pecos/Mentone area.

*flash visit*

This is a song of one of our Dutch bands. They played it on a Dutch show to send some comfort to us all in these challenging times.

[link to www.youtube.com (secure)]

the refrain of it:

Ain't nobody out there as brave as you,
you're holdin' your own
a million different voices
that are trying to break you
just listen to one
the one that's inside you,
and soldier on

It is a message for all of us, in the situation we are in globally, to never abandon hope and fight, to find a light, no matter how dark it is and stick together.

Much love to all of you. Stay strong and keep believing in the power in yourself and those around us! grouphug

You both are beautiful, just like the rest of you. I know these are very challenging times on a personal level. Added to the things we are already going through without the virus. That for sure is not easy at all. It sucks.

But I have also seen tremendous strength in these times, creative thoughts. And that will pull us through, no matter what. grouphug

I wondered if you might've felt it! Plus I thought of you because we were just posting about the increase in TX quakes. A 5.0 is definitely the largest quake I've seen in that part of the country! We had a 5.2 here some years ago and it caused damage and almost everyone felt it. A 5.0 is nothing to sneeze at, as my own granny would say :)

Another song from a Dutch band. Posted it a few days ago in the Jukebox.

[link to www.youtube.com (secure)]

I know so many people, who feel like this. Just keep believing in better times ahead again. In our weakest moment we find strength you know.

And if you are too weak to find that strength, know there are others there that carry that light for you. Never abandon hope and believe in yourself and others.

I adjusted a part of a poem I once wrote, for who ever needs it.

Light Across the Sea

Life is just too precious
please don't let it fall apart
for right there in those ashes
belief will light your heart

maybe we are all just fishes
swimming in this big wide sea
rushing off into the darkness
on the run and never free

but somewhere in that darkness
there's a light across the sea
all you need to do is reach out
and find that light in me

Stay safe out there. Much love to all of you!
