Mini and I are gonna go on an adventure! A local adventure lol, aka a drive. We have no actual destination, but we're bored so we might take a ride to Boston and check things out (from the inside of my car haha).

Goodie bag is packed. Rolled a couple, made some sammiches and threw in a couple waters. Also packed the camera, just in case!

@temblor

It is beginning to appear that a 20-25 km long left-lateral strike-slip fault, perhaps fully unmapped before the earthquake, is responsible for the 15 May rupture. There is just one notable scarp along this entire trend, suggesting it is a young fault.

Like I said....

So GLAD I'm a Texan!
We will surely see an increase in cases, but most people seemed to want to ease the restrictions.

Something I've noticed - the people I've dealt with in the stores and restaurant drive-thrus have been EXCEPTIONALLY nice and friendly and helpful. Noticeably nicer and more helpful. It's been good to see.

My son-in-law had a lady come up to him & give him grief about not wearing a mask the other day. He was filling the fuel tanks at a convenience store, outside on the parking lot, with no one within 20 feet of him. Until the lady walked up and got ugly. He didn't have much patience with her.

Not everyone is nice and friendly and helpful, I guess.

Here's the problem with not wearing a mask right now. Not wearing a mask is dangerous. It is also a slap in the face to everyone who has been doing their part in staying at home indoors for the better part of two months and the millions of dead around the world.

This should never be a political issue, though. Everyone should do their part in this. Because of a few people's refusals to follow the rules for no reason than to dab a few grey hairs with some dye, we're going to have a devastating second wave of coronavirus when it hits.

The virus is not gone just because Trump says so, it's a political inconvenience to him, and because he refuses to listen to his experts. Not just his experts - any experts. They don't work that way. We are far from a safe environment to stop social distancing and easing these measures. Everyone gets the virus - it's not just old people. We should be doing this for another month to eliminate the virus and save more lives. Deaths due to this virus are unacceptable.

And the mask is a temporary inconvenience. The myopic shortsightedness of some is just unbelievable to me.

I don't have the luxury of throwing social distancing to the wind living with my close to 65 and high-risk mother. But you know what? Quite frankly, wearing a mask does not bother me in the least. I'll gladly do it to save lives and lower the risk to her significantly when necessary. Masks should never be such an emotionally charged issue.

Ok. We have to wear a mask. Get over it. It takes 2 seconds to put on. And 2 seconds to remove. That so many people are so against saving lives by not wearing masks is unbelievable to me also. That they can't spend those extra 4 seconds out of their day to help someone else for the short time they go out is astounding to me.

I'd rather wear the mask than get thousands of holes punctured in my lungs or be on a ventilator with a lifetime of damage. The temporary inconvenience far outweighs the risk. And it's not even an inconvenience at all. Wearing a mask? So what. It's not a big deal.

I get it...people are out of work and they want to go back to work. But, it's not going to be an instant recovery. We're not going to wake up tomorrow and be back to normal because Trump says so.

Life doesn't work that way.

And the second wave will be deva...stat...ing.

In my Morpheus voice: let us hope that I am wrong.

*steps down off of soapbox*

Much love to you, granny.

I totally agree, CS. Hubby and I always mask-up if we have to go out. We've gotten some pretty weird looks from folks who didn't wear one. Doesn't bother me.
I'm 70 and hubby will be 80 in 2 weeks. And we have custody of a 2 yr old child. I'm not about to take chances when we go out.

Son-in-law doesn't really grasp how bad this virus is. I've tried to talk to him, but he's bought into the media saying it's not as bad as expected and the political games over it are enforcing his opinion. He drives an 18 wheeler delivering fuel to convenience stores. He doesn't have anyone in the truck with him, he doesn't have to go in the stores (and doesn't), and because he has to put out cones to keep vehicles away from his truck, he's never closer than 20' to anyone - and always outside. He doesn't feel the need to wear a mask for his job, and isn't required by his company to do so.

I also worry about a bad second wave - in fact, I've topped off my inventory to keep from having to make any store runs. And I have a huge garden to make sure I can use my FoodSaver or my pressure canner to add to the food supply. I agree, that this fall may see a horrible wave of virus. Hope son-in-law doesn't learn how bad the virus is the hard way.

I believe in mask wearing when around others. At the store, on a walk if passing by someone, etc. but I don't see why your SIL would need to be wearing one while he is working. He's not near anyone. Maybe keep one in his pocket for when he gets out of the truck, just in case someone approaches him again to throw on real quick, but if no one is within 20 feet of him, wearing a mask isn't helping him or anyone else.

In MA, we have to wear a mask if we can't avoid staying 6 feet away from someone else. So in all stores you must wear one. You can go for a walk without having a mask on your face if no one is within 6 feet of you, but if you're walking directly past someone, you're supposed to put it on for that moment and then can pull it back down/take off.

Lynn reported 20 new cases on Monday, which, when factoring in those who have recovered and died, brings the city’s caseload to 3,035.

As of last Wednesday, Lynn has the fourth highest number of cases in the state and the third highest infection rate, according to the state Department of Public Health.

We've only had 122 cases with 12 deaths. Probably why people here are not believing that the virus is very dangerous.

Fire dept. EMT's have been tasked with testing all nursing home residents by the end of the month. One nursing home here had 45 cases and 9 deaths.

Now that restrictions are relaxed I fully expect to see a noticeable rise in cases. Kind of scary, actually. And mostly because so many folks don't think it's important to wear masks, use hand sanitizer, etc. We are planning to make our social distancing more strict, not less. Don't know what we'll do about our grandkids - they will be wanting to go see friends and do things. They've been coming to our house regularly til now becasue it's the only place they've been allowed to go. Guess we will have to restrict their visits here.

@breakingweather

The Sanford Dam has failed between Sanford Lake and the Tittabawassee River in Michigan. People downstream of the dam are being told to evacuate immediately and a flash flood emergency is in effect:

We ended up driving to Boston. Not much excitement. Some areas were pretty empty, but others had lots of people. Lots of masks in Boston. It's been a beautiful day so people were out and about on foot. One of the pics in the link below looks like a ghost town. Considering the time of day that we drove in, it was a ghost town. No traffic at all in Boston or driving back home.

I never got to use my camera as I was the driver lol. I was able to grab some phone pics though. :)

I've seen several of those "gagging while prepping a turkey" videos, but that one was different! Hope she told him what's up, I think he was traumatized
