Earthquake Thread ~ Always Updated

Been thinking about the rolling blackouts in Texas.

I just don't understand why this is happening. During the summer, huge amounts of electricity is used to power a-c units. So where did all the electricity go?

Been bugging me since this morning when I read about it. Basically the same number of homes that use cooling air in the summer are now using that for the winter.

Bugging me. Like this is a CT and I don't know that anyone is questioning this weirdness

Also Natural gas is on demand with well fields and not a lot of storage other than line pack in large high pressure gas lines. You still need to get to the wells to continue production.

And when there is no power then this happens. Cell phones, fiber and cable use A/C power and not a lot of batteries or generators.

Took one away and downgraded to 6.2

I guess nothing is insulated there. I lived in Austin when 1-2 inches of ice coated EVERYTHING. Even the dried and dead weeds. It was beautiful, like a dream like winter wonderland but it played havoc on all the trees. Millions were damaged or brought down. Our home had 12 Live Oaks and all had branches (not limbs) fall. All those broken branches brought down power lines and many fires started.

An earthquake this large that has a second reading like this it is almost always a reflection from another seismograph of the event. After a Geologist evaluation they remove the ones that are out of the norm for conditions and may even raise or lower the magnitude of the event slightly. The original readings are computer generated to be posted so quickly.

exploding gasline has shut down Brown Rd. in Auburn Hills near Great Lakes Crossing.
The fire can be seen from Oakland University. A WXYZ reporter described the sound as a jet engine, which can also be heard from campus. Residence hall students are being told to keep their windows shut tonight.
As of 11:17 p.m., WXYZ reported no injuries associated with the fire. Local police told WXYZ that callers were unable to make calls through to 911 due to damaged phone lines. Non-emergency lines were also down.
