I grew up in NW Ohio. Totally German settlers. It could be. We used to have an r in words like warsh/wash. My gramma did til the day she died, but teachers fussed us out of it right away.
Quoting: Texan Buckeye I'm from Akron originally. Sometimes I still say warsh or winder for window. Quoting: Paranoiaaaaa I was raised in AZ and NM and my greats all came from Texas. They all, including my mom said = warsh, crick, seament, pahcan pie, and we all still say FER for FOR. Most Coloradans (true Coloradans that is) say FER. The older ones all said AWL for oil. Quoting: WhiteAngel We say all of that but we say cement with a short e and oil is oil. The west Texans got me on Awl. Black poly pop was another one I ran into. Pop was pipe. Oh yeah. Coke isn't just Coke from Oklahoma down to Texas either. It's every type of soda. In Ohio it's pop. Quoting: Texan Buckeye I always said coke or soda. In Austin it was soda water.
